  • 10+ years’ experience evaluating electrical failures preferred
As our client’s business expands, an excellent opportunity has been created for a Forensic Electrical Engineer to join the team based in Southwestern Sydney.

As an experienced Forensic Electrical Engineer, you will rely on scientific principles to investigate all types of failures impacting service, people, and business production— from minor to catastrophic. You will apply your analytical thinking to investigate the origin and cause of electrical failures.

Responsibilities:
  • Travel to forensic fire investigation sites as required to conduct field investigations and analyse fires of various types of electrical equipment and wiring systems.
  • Collect electrical equipment to examine in a laboratory.
  • Investigate the origin and cause of failures, damages, or defects in the electrical fields within industrial, commercial, and residential sites.
  • Consult with product manual or manufacturer to; verify correct composition of affected electrical equipment, evaluate the failed and damaged components to determine the root cause of the failure including lightning damage, electrocutions, electrically related fires, appliance, and consumer product failure evaluation.
  • Consult with electrical field specialist as required ie. Sub Power Station Services
  • Analyse the failure of electrical systems and/or equipment to evaluate the quality of construction or review the design or maintenance procedures.
  • Prepare recommendations for repair and/or remediation as appropriate.
  • Prepare comprehensive reports outlining the origin and cause of the damages to clients and for litigation requirements.
  • Confidently present findings of electrical fire cause in court to reveal evidence.
  • Establish trusted working relationships and interactions in a confident and social manner with clients and industry professionals.
  • Determine the cause of fires in accordance with National Construction Codes (NCC)
  • Analysis of technical problems and electrical analysis of failed or damaged systems in accordance with Australian Electrical Engineering Standards.
Job Requirements:
  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline is required.
  • 10+ years’ experience evaluating electrical failures in a commercial or industrial setting preferred.
  • Power systems experience (generators, transformers, and switchgear, etc.)
  • Ability to work in inclement weather and various environmental conditions.
  • Prior litigation experience is preferred or the desire to work in an expert witness environment.
  • Strong understanding of residential, commercial, industrial, and utility systems.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills are a must.
  • Experience working with solar panel components.
  • Highly analytical with high attention to detail
  • Logical and inquisitive minded
