Claims Specialist, Domestic Building Insurance (DBI) – Max Term 2 years

Your role

We have a fantastic opportunity for a seasoned claims management professional to join the Claims team within the Domestic Building Insurance division.

As our Claims Specialist, you'll be responsible for end to end management, assessment and settlement of a diverse range of domestic building insurance claims, including complex claims involving active participation in VCAT conferences, mediations and hearings leading settlement discussions and working in conjunction with our appointed legal service providers.

You'll be reporting to Manager, Claims in the Domestic Building Insurance (DBI) division.

As part of a small team working for a diverse insurer, this is a great opportunity to collaborate with internal stakeholders and external service providers to deliver high-quality claims outcomes.

Drawing on your highly developed communication, influencing and negotiation skills along with strong analytical skills and insurance industry knowledge, you use insights of trends within your portfolio to work with internal colleagues to build knowledge of emerging trends and strategies to improve the claims management process.

Success in this role requires your ability to comfortably use IT systems, work under pressure effectively while maintaining resilience, provide strong technical expertise and stretch your relationship-building and influencing skills.

Your key relationships

  • You work closely with the Manager, Claims, to actively manage your portfolio and contribute to the development of new and existing claims services and business practices to build the value and contribution to DBI clients
  • You liaise with the General Manager, DBI to provide insights, trends and recommendations within the DBI portfolio
  • You engage with the DBI Claims team to provide a mentoring and coaching role giving insight into policy and process
  • You work across the DBI division including peers within the Builder Assessment and Service Delivery teams to improve claims management outcomes
  • You build and maintain relationships with key external agencies such as VBA, CAV and DBDRV to share information and collaborate on strategic projects
  • You build and maintain effective relationships with 3rd party service providers to obtain optimum claims resolution, ensure value for money and manage recovery opportunities.

What we're looking for

  • Minimum 3-5 years' claims management experience within Builders Warranty Insurance or similar scheme e.g. Property Claims either with an insurer or in a legal position
  • You hold a tertiary qualification in Law (essential)
  • You may also hold a professional membership with a risk management, Insurance or relevant organisation
  • Highly developed problem solving, influencing and negotiation skills
  • Ability to be empathetic to the needs of our clients
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (both verbal and written)
  • Demonstrated analytical skills and insurance industry acumen
  • Resilient with the ability to work under pressure and manage and resolve complex claims within a timely manner.
  • Excellent computer literacy skills and experience using Claims Management IT Systems and MS Office applications
