JOB DESCRIPTION

Naval Group Australia (NGA) is seeking an Estimating Manager to join the Attack Class submarine program. The largest and most ambitious defence acquisition program Australia has ever undertaken. Professional challenges don’t come any bigger than this.

Reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer, this business-critical position will be broadly responsible for the implementation, development and planning of functional estimating requirements and strategies for the 50 billion-dollar Future Submarine Program.


More specifically, the Estimating Manager will:

  • Develop, Implement and deliver the Estimating Functional strategy to underpin the long-term contractual capabilities for the FSP through training, tools, processes and functional reviews.
  • Define functional capability requirements for Naval Group Australia; and ensure that resource requirements meet current and future program needs.
  • Develop an Estimating road map with the input of the Naval Group Australia’s team to increase the maturity of our financial assumptions.
  • Provide estimating advice, direction and decision support to the finance team, Work Package Manager (WPMs) and Control Account Managers (CAMs) in the achievement of business objectives.
  • Provide mentoring and ad-hoc support to the broader project Finance Team.
  • Liaise with Naval Group France when required.


To be successful in this position, the role suits a candidate that has:

  • Extensive experience working in a senior estimating position, within a large complex program.
  • Tertiary qualifications in Project Management, Engineering, Finance or related field
  • Hands on experience in estimating and pricing in the development and delivery of estimation models and structures.
  • Experience working on large scale bids and offers in excess of >$1Billion.
  • Experience leading and growing a small team whilst achieving results through others.
  • Relevant Functional qualifications with ICEAA and or ACostE (Desirable)
