The role:

Being an integral part the ecommerce team, the Senior UX Engineer is tasked to continually refine and enhance existing UI components, whilst also considering future requirements by collaborating with UX and product teams. The mission is to develop components that can be leverage across all our brands and digital environments

The brand experiences we have today have a consistent design language, which although is adapting as per changing customer needs and behaviours is also cognisant of established frameworks and platform capabilities that our environments are built around.

Our design foundation established by UX leads will continue to guide the overall experience, from an art direction/business perspective. What we require is for UX Engineers to maintain and improve upon these experiences to keep deliverables on point.

Key responsibilities include but are not limited to;

  • Drive and deliver best practice Component Design, Design Systems and Styleguides
  • Collaborate and contribute with UX and Development teams across a range design related activities & project.
  • Provide advice on the range of UI design decisions and associated benefits.
  • Build strong relationships with wider digital group.
  • Knowledge & interest of front-end best practice, interface design, web performance and accessibility
  • Liaising with stakeholders and acting on critique to improve Customer, Designer and Developer Experience to achieve business outcomes.

Skills & Experience

  • Tertiary qualification in relevant design or development field
  • 6-10+ years of Web Design & Development or closely related field
  • Strong experience with Design Systems
  • Web development portfolio or ability to demonstrate work on high complexity projects
  • Strong knowledge of JavaScript, specifically Front-end React
  • Strong CSS knowledge, CSS frameworks (LESS/SASS etc..)
  • Semantic HTML & HTML Prototyping
  • Strong knowledge and passion for Component Design, Design Systems and Styleguides
  • Responsive design, mobile first web design, web applications
  • Design principles and best practice of UI interaction patterns including Form design, Usability, web performance and Accessibility
  • CSS scaling methodologies (OOCSS, SMACSS, BEM, etc.)
  • Front-end build systems and tooling (e.g. Pre-processors, Task runners, Package managers)
  • Version control systems (e.g. Git)
  • Understanding of Token Library databases and Headless CMS Technology
  • Knowledge of other web interface framework languages (eg, Angular, Vue, Handlebars etc.)
