As a Project Engineer for our Solar Center of Excellence in Gunnedah or West Wyalong, New South Wales, you will contribute to our team in a contract position for nine to twelve (9-12) months by:
  • Performing quantity takeoffs and surveys to manage contract progress and reporting.
  • Maintaining contract with select subcontractors and is responsible for some subcontract administration, including defining work scope, answering inquiries, and monitoring engineering and technical progress.
  • Reviewing and understanding contract obligations as per the responsible work scope.
  • Assisting with change management and change order process, including pricing, processing, and assessing cost and schedule impact before reviewing with the project lead.
  • Developing and monitoring overall project schedule and budgets.
  • Consulting with designers/engineers when reviewing drawings and suggesting value-added or alternative construction methods or materials.
  • Assisting project lead in creating and issuing tender packages and subcontracts and monitoring their progress.
  • Maintaining and performing project document control and procedures (administering RFIs, shop drawing and submittal process, maintaining as-built technical drawings, etc.).
  • Assisting the project team lead in monitoring the design team for timely response to the submittal schedule.
  • Participating in reviews of subcontractors’ submittals for compliance with scope, design documentation and coordination with other disciplines against the design documentation prior to forwarding to the design team for their review.
  • Assisting project lead and superintendent in managing and reporting overall project or select scope performance as per site HSE, cost management, schedule, and quality to ensure compliance with engineering standards, quality, costs, safety, timeliness and performance.
  • Providing proactive leadership for safety and quality programs.
  • Preparing and tracking progress claims and estimates on more complex scopes.
  • Overseeing inventory and tracking of materials and equipment, and expedites material orders.
  • Overseeing work packages for self-perform work and maintaining self-perform schedule and costing system.
  • Mentoring project solar field engineers/coordinators and students/interns.
  • Assisting and manageing overall construction coordination and planning, engineering strategies, policies and plans.
  • Identifying and assisting in resolving complex field technical issues and maintenance requirements pertinent to solar facility construction.
  • Involving in and assisting with, managing overall project closeout, including document archival, maintenance and warranty manuals, deficiencies, and warranty work.
  • Assisting with pre-commissioning or commissioning.
  • Developing and maintaining strong stakeholder relationships.
  • Valuing and modeling the solution provider and profitability culture.
  • Performing other duties as required.
What you will bring to the role:
  • A postsecondary education or training in engineering, construction management, or a related discipline.
  • 4 – 6 years of construction experience in an operational role and experience in solar facility construction is required.
  • Detailed knowledge of construction equipment and techniques, drawings and specifications, project health, safety and environment (HSE), quality, building materials, and required standards as per discipline.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of means and methods and construction sequences.
  • Ability to create and manage a comprehensive schedule.
  • Ability to formulate subcontracts and administer subcontracts and contract documents.
  • Ability to apply basic engineering/problem-solving principles to construction challenges.
  • Working knowledge of construction law and building codes. Relevant knowledge in solar farming construction is preferred.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Understanding of decision-making authority and ability to influence decisions.
  • Demonstrated flexibility and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Planning, organizational, and time management skills with the ability to multitask, prioritize own work, and delegate tasks.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective stakeholder relationships.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and construction-related software.
