Australian Bay Lobster Producers Ltd (ABLP) is a commercial producer of Bay Lobster in an industrial setting. ABLP works in close co-operation with Griffith University to apply machine learning technologies to the automation of lobster production. With this role, you will have the exciting opportunity to apply machine learning to fast-evolving aquaculture production systems.


● Develop cutting edge machine learning systems.

● Challenging and multidisciplinary role.

● Your primary functions will be to develop, train, deploy and maintain machine learning systems for lobster production. 

Position responsibilities will include but not be limited to:

● Developing solutions in a team environment including interacting with peers, operational and maintenance personnel.

● Development of product & site support literature.

● Implement, improve and maintain machine learning models including ensuring that critical systems can operate 24/7 in a fail-safe manner.

● Implement and optimise machine learning models to run on dedicated hardware.

● Contribute to machine learning technical strategy and development pipeline.

● Contribute to the enhancing usability of our machine learning systems for operational staff. 

● Development of product & site support literature.

● Working within project timelines & budgets.

The successful applicant will possess the following:

● Masters, PhD or relevant industry experience in Data Science/Machine Learning/Computer Vision/Computer Engineering.

● +2 years experience in machine learning development roles with a focus on computer vision.

● Knowledge of various classes of ML algorithms, techniques and packages.

● Excellent collaboration skills in cross-functional teams with the ability to communicate to both technical and non-technical audiences.

● Previous execution and delivery of Machine Learning Image Processing related projects.

● Self-driven, ability to work independently and with cross-functional teams.

● Effective communication skills.

● Excellent work ethic.

● Team player.


● Knowledge and passion for aquaculture.

● Experience deploying machine learning solutions using tools such as Docker and Kubernetes.

● Passion for implementing continuous integration and continuous delivery deployment concepts.

● Experience practising infrastructure as code using automation scripts.


Flexible location at either at Chinderah in the Northern NSW or Nathan, Brisbane.
