JOB DESCRIPTION

Red 5 Limited are currently seeking a suitably qualified Geotechnical Engineer to join their Underground Mining Teams. Reporting to the Underground Mine Manager, you will be responsible for collection and analysing geotechnical data pertinent to the mine, including effective recognition, understanding and reporting of hazards.
You will be someone who takes pride in producing high quality work and ownership of their remit. Applicants should be solutions focused and be able to communicate confidently and clearly across all levels.
This role is offered on an 8 days on 6 days off roster and is Fly in Fly out from Perth.
Key responsibilities will include;
Always act in a manner that seeks to enhance the safety culture & performance of Red 5 Limited and ensures that the Vital Behaviors are adhered to at all times;
Understand and comply with all legislative and company safety, health, environment, cost and production objectives, guidelines, procedures and requirements relevant to the professional management of ground conditions;
Conduct regular inspections and audits of underground workplaces, specifically checking workplace standards, work quality and procedures in relation to ground control issues;
Develop a level of familiarity with the mining environment to ensure effective identification of general hazards and ground conditions hazards, including potential hazardous circumstances;
Develop and maintain an understanding of excavation design, planning, geological and operational issues to identify and communicate potential opportunities and concerns;
Investigate and report on the ground control issues as required;
Undertake modelling and monitoring of induced stress, seismic, hydrogeological and rock mass conditions as required;
Conduct and assist in geologically based project as required
Advise and assist engineers with recommendations on geotechnical and hydro-geological issues regarding mine design, planning and operations as required

Key factors to your success include;
Recognized Tertiary Degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Geology or Mine Engineering (ongoing post graduate studies/degree would be advantageous);
Minimum 5 years’ experience in Geotechnical Engineering, mine site based proven experience in underground mining in hard rock.
Experience with computer aided mine design programs, geotechnical software and other business software, namely Deswik, Surpac, DIPS, numerical modelling software and Microsoft Office products.
Knowledge in seismic monitoring applications is an advantage
