The opportunity

Our Building Services Team is growing! We have an exciting opportunity for a Building Inspector with unlimited registration to provide effective and efficient inspection services of commercial, industrial, public institutional, residential, domestic and ancillary applications, whilst providing a customer-focused professional advisory service to Council and other External Agencies.

As our Building Inspector, you will also actively work in partnership with the Building Services Teams at both Wyndham and Hobsons Bay City Councils on the DEWLP High Risk and Hazardous Waste Site investigation program.

Key responsibilities:
Undertake statutory building inspections including high-risk waste sites including hazardous buildings and structures. Complete detailed assessment of essential safety measures compliance in buildings, temporary structures, and any other inspections in accordance with relevant building legislation, Council policies and procedures;
Provide timely, efficient, professional and reliable composition, production and issue of inspection reports, letters, building notices/orders and minor works building orders and associated correspondence;
Proactively monitor building compliance, audit and gather evidence, investigate in conjunction with other council officers, prepare reports, correspondence, briefs of evidence and other documentation to allow commencement of enforcement actions and act as an expert witness and informant where necessary;
Effectively contribute to follow up ongoing Building Enforcement to achieve necessary compliance against breaches under the Building Act 1993 and Building Regulations 2018;
Provide professional advice with respect to maintenance of essential safety measures, annual essential safety measures report, swimming pool barriers, installation of smoke detection and other building safety matters as required, in accordance with current building legislation.

To be considered for this role, you will have the following:
Current professional registration as a Building Inspector Unlimited with the Victorian Building Authority (VBA);
A tertiary qualification in Building Inspection / Assessment or a related discipline and several years' relevant experience carrying out commercial building audits and inspection of Essential Services
Highly developed ability to read and understand building plans, associated documentation and specifications.
A current Victorian Driver's Licence.
