Process Engineer, Grinding Business Line is responsible for understanding, using, and developing the tools and methods to select the optimal grinding equipment to meet the customer’s process requirements. The Process Engineer will have cradle to grave responsibility for capital sales opportunities, including Cooperation with customers to develop efficient and cost-effective processes, coordination and supervision of lab test work, sizing and selection of equipment, on-site process commissioning, start-up assistance, and ongoing process support during operations. The objective of the position is to maximize Minerals Capital Sales by growing and leveraging Metso Outotec’s world-class knowledge and understanding of grinding processes.

Essential functions of this role include:

  • Selecting and sizing Metso Outotec grinding equipment (SAG/AG mills, ball mills, stirred mills, HPGRs) based on customer-provided data or laboratory results.
  • Planning and supervising laboratory test work and analyzing the results.
  • Start-up and commissioning support of new Metso Outotec grinding equipment at customer site.

Job Duties And Responsibilities

  • Work to maintain and develop tools for modeling equipment performance.
  • Select and size equipment and develop and design systems solutions to support bidding and execution of Mining Capital projects, working in conjunction with York test center as required.
  • Prepare accurate and timely process simulation modeling including expected values and design conditions considering various process conditions.
  • Provide field start-up commissioning services and process audits.
  • Provide technical support to sales staff and assist in developing positive customer relationships.
  • Attend customer meetings as necessary to develop customer solutions and provide technical and commercial support in closing sales.
  • Prepare Performance Guarantees and other commercial documents as required for Grinding Business Line proposals.
  • Review control philosophy and P & I diagrams.

Travel

Up to 30% may be required for this position, domestic and international.

Qualifications

Education/Training:
Bachelor of Science Degree in an engineering discipline or equivalent experience

Experience:
Minimum 3 years of experience in process engineering with OEM serving mining or other heavy equipment industries.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Detailed understanding of Grinding Business Line equipment and products.
  • Demonstrated understanding of industry best practices.
  • Engineering skills must include proven abilities in data handling and applied statistics, control theory, and logic, application of mineral processing principles, unit operations modeling, and structured problem-solving.
  • Must have the ability to identify and assess operational, control, or design-related problems or constraints; design and evaluate alternative solutions; select and justify recommended solutions, and implement and evaluate recommendations. An implementation may be in the form of flowsheet design support, process re-engineering, DCS or PLC configuration, or process optimization using available analytical, statistical, and/or simulation tools.
  • Ability to understand engineering drawings.
  • Excellent oral and written communications and attention to accuracy and detail are essential. Ambition and determination tempered by empathy, flexibility, and perseverance are required; particularly while working at client sites.
  • Effective customer relations and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong leadership skills with a bias for action.
  • Highly motivated with the ability to meet tight deadlines.
  • Ability to successfully drive change initiatives to realization.
  • Highly organized and able to multitask and prioritize various activities to ensure timely and accurate compliance with schedule and budget requirements.
  • In-depth knowledge of personal computers, including Microsoft Office products.
