With a proven and proud history of engaging, fostering and developing Undergraduate Engineers, the Infrastructure Strategy and Climate Change Unit at Mornington Peninsula Shire is again looking for two students in their penultimate or final year of an Engineering or Science degree who are motivated and eager to learn.

About The Business & Role

The Infrastructure Strategy & Climate Change Unit perform many roles and functions of Council including works in Traffic & Transport, Infrastructure Planning, Asset Management, Sport & Recreation and Climate Change adaptation and mitigation. The complexity of the Unit ensures that you will be exposed to a board range of areas including field investigations, infrastructure planning, road safety initiatives, asset management principals and climate change adaptation and mitigation.

Job Tasks & Responsibilities

You will perform a wide variety of tasks across the Unit as you gain experience, develop skills and build networks to strengthen your career while providing invaluable benefit to community. You will be supported to:
  • Undertake a variety of field investigations
  • Undertake traffic counts as well as parking and traffic surveys
  • Update and validate asset data within the Shire’s Asset Management System
  • Research and provide innovative ideas in the areas of energy, climate change and water
  • Prepare reports and consultant briefs
  • Undertake drainage and waterways planning
  • Contribute to place activation project planning and delivery


To Be Successful In Joining Our Team, You Will

Skills, Experience & Other Requirements
  • Currently be completing your penultimate or final year of an Engineering or Science degree
  • Have a genuine curiosity about your field of study
  • Demonstrate a high level of communication and problem-solving skills
  • Be highly motivated with a desire to achieve excellence
  • Understand the Mornington Peninsula townships (local knowledge of the area is preferable).
  • Hold an Employee Working with Children Check (mandatory)
  • Be prepared to undertake an Australian Criminal History Check (mandatory)
  • Hold a current Drivers Licence (mandatory)
