How will I help?

We have an exciting opportunity for a Mainframe Infrastructure Engineer to join Westpac’s Mainframe Infrastructure Services team within Group Technology. We are open to candidates applying Australia wide as this person will not be expected to be on site.

This person will be responsible for leading and supporting Westpac’s complex mainframe environment within their technical expertise. This role plays an important role in the development and maintenance of technical solutions within the Mainframe and ensures that the detailed design and operations are fit for purpose.

You will be involved in the following responsibilities:

  • Accountable for leading Mainframe infrastructure services supported by partners, vendors and third-party suppliers including technical validation of the supplier’s implementations and proposed configurations.
  • Accountable for leading and supporting evaluation of technical changes, validation of supplier provided quotes and proposals and assessment of supplier provided root-cause-analysis and corrective actions.
  • Provides active support and expertise in the formulation of Infrastructure patterns and standards for effective service strategy and lifecycle planning.
  • Provides expert domain technical input in the requirement review and ensures adequate support for requirement review against current and planned infrastructure environment in collaboration with partners, vendors, and third-party suppliers.
  • Keeping focus on Infrastructure and Operations level priorities, engages with partners to jointly review service requests, assesses, and evaluates complex incidents and problems and leads the diagnosis and resolution of complex technical issues on day-to-day basis.

What do I need?

To be successful in this Audio-Visual Technical Lead role, you will have a minimum of 5 years within this field of work and will also have:

  • 10+ years’ relevant IT industry experience with at least 3 years in a highly technical role
  • 7+ years’ experience in a complex IT infrastructure environment incorporating planning, implementation, operational management, configuration, and maintenance.
  • Expert knowledge in one or more of these Mainframe subsystems – CICs, DB2, IMS TM, IMS DB, z/OS, MQ WebSphere, Storage and/or Mainframe Communications services.
  • Advanced analysis, problem solving, troubleshooting and consultative skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
