The Westpac Group has a complex Information Technology environment that needs to deliver to the rapidly changing needs of our customers and employees, the ever-evolving IT landscape, and the Groups regulatory and statutory requirements.

How will I help?

We have an exciting opportunity for a DevOps Engineer to join Westpac’s Group Technology Business Unit working in the Platform Automation team. This role is accountable for detailed service designs and technical specifications across patterns and the platform and will play an important role of automating the IT Orchestration, the development with Terraform supporting their on-premises infrastructure and building this out to work with AWS and Azure.

You will be involved in the following responsibilities:

Provide technical expertise to Enterprise Compute and Storage teams covering all aspects of the cloud within a specific service or pattern.
Drive a shift left culture, pushing for automation and an Infrastructure as Code mindset of all processes where possible.
Accountable for and input into the provision of future services and maintenance of catalogued services and the platform.
Help set direction and oversight for the consistent use and implementation of tools, standards, methods and processes to ensure that quality services are developed with consistent and maintainable code which supports risk, secure operations and compliance management.
Interacting with stakeholders and other business units within Group Tech including the Patterns team, IT infrastructure run teams, IT Infrastructure security and network teams as well as the public cloud teams.

What do I need?

To be successful in this Principal Infrastructure Automation Technical Lead role, you will have a minimum of 5 years within this field of work and will also have:

3-5+ years’ experience in a similar Infrastructure Automation, DevOps or SRE (Site Reliability Engineering) role.
Demonstratable experience in applying DevOps principles and tooling to deliver automation across cloud platforms and private VMWare-based infrastructure.
Experience provisioning with one or more of the following automation tools - vRealize Automation/Orchestrator, Terraform, CloudFormation, Azure Resource Manager etc.
Experience with configuration management tools including Chef, Ansible, SaltStack and tools for building Images/Templates e.g. Packer.
Development experience in one or more programming or scripting languages – JavaScript (NodeJS), PowerShell, Python, Go, BASH, Ruby, PHP etc.
