Bechtel Mining and Metals are expanding our team in Perth and have some exciting projects and prospects with major mining customers. We are looking for a Lead Mechanical Engineer with experience in design of major high capacity conveyors and engineering of process plants and iron ore crushing and screening plants.

Good communication and client interfacing skills will be a pre-requisite for the right candidate

Experience in engineering on large scale mineral processing plants is important for this role including design of high capacity plant conveyors and overland conveyors. Experience working on complex processing plants will also be an advantage – eg beneficiation plants, magnetite, lithium or cobalt processing. It will also be an advantage if you have experience working on construction sites for supervising mechanical erection and/or commissioning works.

You will be responsible for:

  • Leading and coordinating mechanical engineering activities for studies and projects and ensuring project execution plan and the development is in accordance with project scope, timeframe and standards.
  • Monitoring and assist in maintaining all required engineering design per project Quality Assurance and procedures.
  • Assisting with scope and budget development in response to clients’ needs.
  • Supervising, reviewing and endorsing bid analyses of equipment material and services within engineering’s scope of responsibility.
  • Working in conjunction with our specialist Material Handling Centre of Excellence (CoE) in our Brisbane office. Our CoE has developed high technology approaches to our work in this area and acts as our specialist group for Bechtel projects across the world.

To be successful in the role you will require:

  • Mechanical Engineering Degree from an accredited university
  • Experience in engineering of process plants in Australia
  • Strong knowledge of project engineering processes and procedures.
  • Experience and proven ability to manage mechanical engineering teams
  • Extensive experience in mechanical construction practices and current knowledge of new methods of design and construction
  • Effective communication skills along with demonstrated supervision skills.
  • Solid planning and problem-solving skills
