The Company

Resourceful Recruitment has partnered with a respected electricity transmission operator. They are the central link in the electricity supply chain, transporting high voltage electricity from the generators to the electricity distribution networks. Recent additional investment into their infrastructure team has led to the requirement for an Engineering Manager to join the business.

Your role

The Engineering Manager provides specialist design advice, technical support and leads the technical development and delivery of nominated Major Projects, in support of the Project Director, across the lifecycle of the project. As the project engineering champion for the business, your role provides strategic direction in leading a team of professional project and design staff in;

  • Delivery of Major Projects design and development services
  • Review and assessment of business design standards and innovation challenges
  • Assess options and make decisions in support of good project outcomes
  • Establish and maintain systems, processes and relationships with internal and external design partners and contractors to effectively deliver Substation and Transmission Line design services to the business in support of the project objectives.
The Engineering Manager will be required to liaise with key stakeholders including Executive Managers, Project Directors, Project Development Managers, Design Partners, Asset Management, contractors and design services partners as well as the business’ internal functional and delivery support in delivery of major projects.

Key Accountabilities & Responsibilities
  • Ensure understanding and engagement with project vision, purpose, and strategic and stakeholder considerations at manager and team levels
  • Lead the review and development of Major Project designs and standards in support of the project through;
  • Extensive knowledge and understanding on high voltage primary plant and equipment
  • Providing innovation challenges in design and development
  • Ensuring compliance to required safety, reliability and security needs of the high voltage network
  • Assess current standards and innovation changes in looking for areas of improvement whilst ensuring consistent and quality in design delivery.
  • Develop processes for design delivery to ensure consistency and quality in deliverables
  • Provide support, leadership and guidance for Major Project scoping and delivery
  • Manage investigations and studies to assess the performance and viability of project options for the substation and transmission line network
  • Provide timely technical advice to the Project Director and broader project team through;
  • Sound knowledge of transmission line design, condition and operational considerations
  • Sound knowledge of substation design, condition and operational considerations
Role Requirements
  • Degree qualification in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
  • Minimum 10 years in relevant high voltage infrastructure project development and delivery.
  • Preferred recognition as a Certified Practicing Engineer, Masters of Engineering or equivalent industry recognition.
  • Extensive experience in High Voltage Substation and Transmission Line system design
  • Leadership experience in leading and managing design and development teams
  • Expertise in transmission line and substation design including use and or understanding in PLS-Cadd, CYMCAP, and CDEGS software, etc.
  • Possess and apply knowledge and understanding in functional design areas such as layout and electrical design, insulation co-ordination, earthing, corona, safety clearances, induction, standing voltages, rating calculations and mechanical forces.
  • Substantial knowledge and understanding of relevant legislation, policies and procedures applicable to the preparation of designs and specifications
  • Working knowledge of design quality assurance processes to ensure that designs meet quality requirements
  • Excellent communication and report writing skills
  • Advanced relationship management skills with contractors and external design partners
