Racing Victoria (RV) is one of Australia’s leading sporting organisations, and the independent governing body of thoroughbred racing in Victoria. We develop, promote and manage the conduct of the racing of thoroughbred horses in Victoria to safeguard its integrity.


With the continued growth in the use of technology to support Racing Victoria’s strategic objectives, we’re looking for a passionate technologist and agile thinking engineer to join our expanding Digital Transformation and Technology.


About the Opportunity:

Reporting to Platform Services Manager and working alongside other DevOps Engineer and related Squads the DevOps Engineer will assist with the continued growth in the use of technology to support Racing Victoria’s strategic objectives.


This is an excellent opportunity for the right candidate who wants to build their career in this space. The successful candidate will have a minimum of 5 years of experience with AWS technologies. You will be joining an already high performing team, who are looking for someone like-minded to come on board.


Key responsibilities are but not limited to:

  • Implement, maintain, improve DevOps technology and principles, such as CI/CD pipelines.
  • Build, deploy, maintain infrastructure & applications running on AWS.
  • Build and operate monitoring to ensure security, availability, reliability, performance, and cost.
  • Work with the squads to coach and share solutions and approaches.
  • Improve upon existing automation tools and processes and ensure security is built into necessary processes.
  • Build and manage the shared tools and platforms that will be used by everyone to deliver value.
  • Provide detailed analysis for proposed solutions including materials, manpower and time necessary.
  • Provide clear goals for all areas of a project and develop steps to oversee their timely execution.
  • Mentor and train other engineers throughout the company and seek to continually improve processes.
  • Work closely with engineering professionals within the company to maintain the platforms and tools needed for projects to be completed efficiently.
  • Analyse current technology utilised within the company and develop steps and processes to improve and expand upon them.


About you:

As the successful candidate, you will possess the following:

  • An expert in CI/CD and exposure to multiple deployment tools.
  • An expert in IaC (Terraform or CloudFormation).
  • Experience with the latest DevOps tools, techniques and source control branching methodologies
  • Creation and maintenance of deployment tooling including scripts, monitoring, logging, alerting, CI/CD pipelines.
  • Experience with the following Tools/Platforms would be an advantage:

o NewRelic

o Terraform

o Akamai

o Sitecore

o Atlassian

  • Significant experience with Linux and Windows operating system environments.
  • Working knowledge of containerisation (eg. Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Current understanding of best practices regarding system security measures.
  • Provide high-performance cloud deployment solutions and maintain rapid deployment pipelines, server monitoring, logging, alerting and troubleshooting.
  • Able to multitask, prioritise, and manage time efficiently.
  • Able to stay calm and focused under pressure.
  • Minimum five years’ experience in a role in an Enterprise level DevOps role (80% AWS / 20% Azure).
  • Current AWS DevOps Engineer Professional certification is a must.
