About the Position

The Major Sporting Venues Compliance Supervisor (Workplace Health and Safety and Risk Management) is responsible for providing a high level of technical Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) advice, risk management and building compliance knowledge to assist the Major Sporting Venues team in the identification and implementation of mitigations and controls to manage all identified risks that ensure compliance with Council’s Work Health and Safety Management System.

The City’s Major Sporting Venues (MSV) currently have over 2 million annual patrons and cater to over 600 events, bookings and functions. Each venue and major event have their own WHS, risk management and compliance requirements. This position will provide specialised resourcing to effectively work with leadership to ensure the health and safety of our patrons, workers and visitors as well as meeting the City’s statutory requirements.

Key Deliverables of the position

Review and maintain the MSV compliance register to ensure all venues are compliant with appropriate standards and legislation.
Coordinate WHS induction processes across all MSV venues, including maintenance and event contractors.
Maintain, promote and report on WHS and risk management information, trends, and practices across MSV and identify opportunities for improvement.
Working closely with the Events team to ensure WHS and risk management have been duly considered for all major events.
Assist MSV to undertake and maintain risk assessments (capturing both worker and public / event related risks) to ensure compliance with Work Health and Safety legislation and Australian Standards and work with leadership to identify appropriate controls to minimise risk exposure across all MSV venues.
Participate in major event pre-briefs and de-briefs as required.
Participate in WHS / risk inspections and provide advice or direct intervention where necessary (for event and non-event days).
Undertake WHS auditing to ensure MSV are compliant with Council’s Work Health and Safety Management System and any local processes.
Work with other Subject matter Experts to ensure MSV maintain current Emergency Management Plans.
Review the Directorate Licence, training and PoT monthly compliance report and provide feedback to Leadership where any gaps exist.
On behalf of MSV, review work health and safety / risk documentation received from event companies / hirers etc. and assess for compliance to relevant legislation. Providing any subsequent advice back to the MSV Events team.
Assist the MSV team in meeting their WHS reporting obligations, including the compilation of data to ensure accurate contemporary reporting.

About You

The successful candidate will possess a Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety or Equivalent Knowledge. They will also be able to demonstrate current operational WHS, risk management and compliance knowledge to assist MSV in the identification and implementation of controls to manage all identified risks and ensure services are effectively delivered. Exceptional communication and time management skills are a must, as well as self-motivation and a passion for ensuring compliance with WHS and risk management practices. The successful candidate will be comfortable to step away from the desk and be in amongst the Events team identifying hazards, risks and gaps in WHS compliance. Holding a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment or Equivalent Knowledge is also considered desirable.
