About the role and you:
Our National Transport Safety Team is seeking a highly motivated Practitioner/ Principal Engineer / Scientist level with a strong focus on Road Safety to join our Brisbane based Transport Safety team. The successful candidate will be proactive, take full accountability and be an emerging leader whilst pursuing technical excellence for all work produced by the team.
We are currently in an era where Road Safety is front of mind, we are looking for staff who are seeking to challenge the status quo and then provide solutions.
You would be joining a dynamic national team that is instrumental in saving lives and reducing road trauma through innovation and practical road-based solutions for the transport system.
We will provide you with an opportunity to apply your knowledge in an innovative way to contribute to a change in practice across Australia and New Zealand. This includes collaboration with multiple engineering disciplines within ARRB and State and Local Government Road Authorities.
In this integral role, you will assist the Team Leader in the management of the overall performance of the Brisbane Transport Safety Team, including developing, maintaining and enhancing client relationships whilst maintaining quality and output of work.
You will be provided with the opportunity to lead the development and delivery of projects providing innovative solutions on a Local, State and National scale.
We are looking for talented applicants who can offer practical ‘can do, build/design’ skills with a strong background in applied research from within Construction, Consultancy, or State/ Local Government.
Key attributes: First-principles knowledge and an ability to develop innovative road safety solutions, project management, client engagement, staff coaching and mentoring skills.
In this position you will:

  • Lead the project management and technical aspects of consulting and research-based projects and programs.
  • Coach and mentor staff to ensure their development.
  • Undertake applied research using a first-principles approach to provide innovative and practical solutions that can be implemented to improve road safety.
  • Provide expert consulting and technical advice to road managers, industry, and other stakeholder.
  • Develop existing and new relationships to develop consulting and research-based projects and programs.
  • Deliver training as part of ARRB’s knowledge transfer program ‘ARRB iMPACT’.
  • Represent ARRB and its members through publishing research papers and presenting at. National and International conferences.

We seek an individual who has:

  • Has the following experience:
    • Bachelors of Engineering or equivalent
    • 15 to 20+ years’ relevant consulting/practical and or research experience.
    • Experience within (or working for) Local, State Road Agencies, or Federal. Government Agencies highly desirable.
    • Expertise in road safety engineering.
    • Strong project management skills.
    • Strong report writing skills.
    • Demonstrated ability to project lead a team to successful outcome.
    • Knowledge and understanding of current technical guides and standards.
  • Desirably has the following:
    • Is a Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) or Registered Professional Engineer of Queensland (RPEQ) or is eligible to apply and gain recognition within 4 months of appointment.
  • Current or potential Team Leaders take note:
    • Applicants with 15+ years’ experience who are ready to step up into a Team Leader role are encouraged to apply.
    • Existing Team Leaders will ideally have proven experience in Staff Management, Mentoring and Developing teams.
