Job Description

Systems Connect (an unincorporated Joint Venture between CPB Contractors and UGL Engineering) is delivering the Line-wide Works (LW Works) package of the Sydney Metro City & Southwest (SMCSW) project, which will extend Sydney Metro Northwest to the CBD and beyond to Bankstown. SMCSW is being delivered through a suite of contracts for the tunnels, stations, line-wide infrastructure and systems.

One of the key packages of work includes the fit out of the Sydney Metro City & Southwest tunnels and stations including provision of track, overhead wiring, HV reticulation, tunnel ventilation, fire services tunnel services.

The WHS Advisor shall support the Safety Manager to effectively facilitate the implementation of WHS, Rail Safety, Workers Compensation & Injury Management processes and systems to continually improve our safety performance and meet legal requirements.

The role will provide advice and mentoring on WHS, rail safety, worker’s compensation as well as assisting in identifying and implementing best practice solutions to prevent incidents.

  • Advise & coach operational managers, supervisors and workers in regard to achieving compliance and best practice for WHS, worker’s compensation & injury management
  • Preparation of reports for internal & external stakeholders where required
  • Develop and maintain WHS records and systems
  • Nurture a culture of inclusion, responsiveness, honesty and accountability
  • Conducting incident investigation
  • Conducting inspections and audits
  • Conducting safety training and behavioural programmes including toolbox talks and inductions
  • Implementing and monitoring compliance with Safety Policy and legislative requirements
  • Conduct return to work coordinator activities

Flexibility to work day shift, night shift and possession weekends

About You

We want people who are professional, innovative, committed and looking to be challenged. To be successful you will require:
  • Certificate IV, Diploma and/or tertiary qualifications in WHS
  • Excellent knowledge of the WHS, preferably in a construction, tunnel or rail environment.
  • The ability to provide leadership, direction and support to all team members
  • Clear communications skills and the ability to negotiate & collaborate
  • ICAM Lead Investigator training, Return to Work Coordinator and RIW preferred
  • Rail experience an advantage
  • Understanding of / exposure to NSW SafeWork
  • Understanding of / exposure to risk assessment and mitigation
  • Excellent Microsoft Word and Excel skills
