This will be a landmark project for both New South Wales and Australia and is due for completion at the end of 2026.

Position Summary

Responsible for assigned activities within the Engineering function on the Western Sydney Airport project. Close coordination of activities between WSA’s Main Works Contractors and Sydney Metro. Sydney Metro intend to design, construct and operate a rail service to the airport. Applies broad and diversified knowledge of engineering and interface management principles and practices to project engineering with a focus on Rail and Airport projects. Makes decisions independently within the remit of the joint agreements between WSA and Sydney Metro. Reports to the Rail Interface Manager.

Responsibilities

  • Day to day coordination with WSA, Delivery Partner, WSA’s Main Works Contractors (MWCs) and Sydney Metro teams
  • Supervises and provides technical direction to subordinate engineering supervisors, engineers, specialists, scientists, designers and drafters.
  • Communicates complex technical issues and recommends solutions to upper management.
  • Facilitates design reviews of WSA and Sydney Metro design submissions.
  • Support and facilitate design coordination activities between MWCs (supporting Package Management) and SMWSA
  • Requires a broad knowledge of industry and regulatory standards, and design criteria pertinent to the multidisciplinary facets of Rail and Airport projects.
  • Work closely with WSA and WSA’s Contractors to close out design review processes with Sydney Metro and other stakeholders.
  • Prepare Design Management Plans on behalf of WSA
  • Facilitate safety assurance review of WSA’s Contractors’ design and construction activities
  • Administration of RID Schedule 2
  • Facilitate WSA’s participation in Interface Network Assurance Committee – brief WSA attendees, arrange meetings and document submissions
  • Support development of Access Licence documentation
Job Knowledge
  • Experience working in a large multidisciplinary project environment
  • Broad experience with interface management protocols and their application across all project phases
  • Comfort operating in a highly technical environment within constrains of commercial and contractual boundaries
  • Knowledge of Rail and Aviation related industry/regulatory codes and standards and design criteria pertinent to the particular discipline.
  • A broad knowledge of the application of engineering to infrastructure constructability as applied to construction methods and materials
  • Working knowledge of engineering planning and control methods.
  • A knowledge of related construction practices and the economics involved.
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering or Management discipline from an accredited college or university or equivalent experience
  • Supervisory experience preferred
  • Demonstrated skills in oral and written communication
  • Interpersonal skills and able to interact closely with client and contractors while maintaining necessary levels of commercial awareness
  • Commercial acumen within a technical environment
Preferred Qualifications
  • A recognised degree in an Engineering or Management discipline from an accredited college or university or equivalent experience
  • Minimum 13 years’ engineering experience on large infrastructure projects
  • Practical work experience in Aviation and/or Rail industries
  • Experience in managing 3rd Party Design Consultants or Subcontractors
