About the Role

One of Australia’s largest mines and a complex minerals processing operation, Olympic Dam, is unique in that we produce Copper, Uranium, Gold and Silver. The local township of Roxby Downs is an active and progressive community offering a variety of modern, well-equipped housing, educational, health, sporting, leisure, shopping and cultural facilities.

Mine Surface Operations at Olympic Dam are responsible for two key services: delivery of backfill material for underground production – including the operation of Australia’s largest quarry – and management of ore handling on the surface to deliver the right grade and volume to the process plant.

Please note this position is based at Olympic Dam, operating on a 5/2 roster, with residential or FIFO options available. Alternative rosters are available for the right candidate.

About the role
This role is about identifying and implementing improvement initiatives with the Mine Surface Production team.

The successful candidate will work with operators, Mining Engineers, Metallurgists and other professionals, on surface and underground, to enable functional excellence and support business priorities for continuous improvement of the Production function. Projects planned include the improvement to the fixed plant quality management, debottlenecking (through modelling and improvement projects) as well as providing inputs and review of a study on the implementation of Pastefill at Olympic Dam.

In this role you will:

  • Be part of the team that manages and operates a plant to produce cemented aggregate fill (CAF), a large limestone quarry that supplies the aggregate for the CAF plant and Surface drilling operations to support CAF placement. The CAF plant produces 2 million cubic metres of fill per annum and the quarry moves 12Mtpa of limestone and overburden.
  • Perform analysis of technical and or work processes, as well as equipment capability
  • Provide expertise to other sub-functions in analysis of performance indicators and metrics
  • Identify functional capability gaps and recommend improvements
  • Compile and maintain the portfolio of improvement initiatives
  • Comply to and consistently follow the standards and procedures designed to enable you to work safely and effectively every day
  • Prepare the inputs to form the Production budget
  • Provide feedback to the Planning function to improve future execution plans, designs, schedules and forecasts
  • Engage with Engineering for modifications needed to plant and equipment
About You

You will possess Tertiary Qualification in Mining, Civil, Mechanical, Business Improvement or other mining-related technical field. You will also have a proven commitment to look after your own wellbeing and the confidence to speak up when others put themselves in harm’s way with the ability to build cross-functional relationships with other sub-functions and departments.
