A fantastic opportunity awaits a motivated clinical nurse consultant to undertake this exciting new position providing care, support and education to at-risk and vulnerable youth, their families and other members of the mental health team.

The primary purpose of Assertive Engagement, Assessment And Building Links, Youth clinician is to provide a standardised developmentally appropriate approach to post presentation follow up for young people who have presented to the ESMHS with a mental health presentation and require intensive outreach / assertive crisis intervention/ risk management or short term (up to 8 weeks) to reduce the likelihood of further presentations and hospital admissions. The position will support a step-down approach to benefit young people at risk of further hospital admission and support the Comprehensive Assessment Service for Psychosis and At Risk (CASPAR) Youth Brief Lifeworks Intervention Program (BLIP) team in providing appropriate assessment and linkage to services for current community consumers.

The clinician is responsible to provide expert consultation to staff of the CASPAR and headspace in-reach at Bondi Junction, who are providing direct care to children and young people using innovative clinical practice evidence based models and building pathways of care. They will assist with clinical leadership, decision making and client flow within a strengths and recovery model of care across varying locations for consumers and their families aged 12-24. The position is involved in quality improvement functions, planning and development and facilitates the strategic strengthening of community based partnerships. Provides education for hospital staff that provides services to children, adolescents, youth and their families and carers on complex mental health issues.

Selection Criteria

  1. Qualification as a Registered Nurse/Midwife having experience in this position as approved by the Public Hospital and Public Health Organization and current registration with the Australian Practitioner Registration Agency.
  2. At least five years full time experience and or equivalent post registration experience with at least 3 years full time equivalent experience in the specialty filed. Demonstrated nursing/midwife qualifications relevant in the provision of child and adolescent mental health services and a breadth of knowledge and expertise in contemporary practices in Youth Mental Health.
  3. Demonstrated experience in the assessment and management of children and adolescents with high level of acuity of Mental Health issues through a client centered consultancy with the ability to work independently
  4. Demonstrated effective communication and inter-personal skills across a variety of mediums and an understanding of the practice development framework.
  5. Demonstrated Clinical leadership capacity and clinical supervision skills. Experience in project work or service development activities that involve planning, developing, implementing, reviewing and evaluation of new initiatives within a health service context.
  6. Demonstrated skills in strategic and clinical service planning including an understanding of organizational behaviour, change management and cultural change processes.
  7. Demonstrated skills in clinical teaching, competency in the use of contemporary information systems experience in the development of specialty education programs.
  8. Current NSW driver’s license
