About the Role

  • The Building Strong Foundations (BSF) Program aims to maintain, improve and promote the optimal health and wellbeing of Aboriginal children (0 – 5 years), their families and communities achieved through the establishment of a culturally appropriate service. This requires the ability to build respectful and trusting relationships with clients and members of the Aboriginal Community and a willingness and ability to participate in community consultation and community development opportunities in accordance with the BSF Service Standards.
  • Working as part of the multidisciplinary team and utilising a strengths based family partnership approach underpinned by the principles of Primary Health Care the Registered Nurse Child and Family Health will work in collaboration with clients/families/carers who attend the Child and Family Health Service with children aged 0– 5 years to provide culturally safe, compassionate, quality client centred nursing care to achieve identified goals and outcomes.
  • This comprehensive service involves assessment, prevention, early identification and intervention, referral, health promotion, community development and education to clients of the service.
This is an Identified Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander Position. Applicants for this position must be of Aboriginal descent through parentage, identify as an Aboriginal person and be accepted in the community as such. Exemption is claimed under Section 14(d) of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977 (NSW).

Selction Criteria to be addressed: * Current registration as Registered Nurse Division 1 with AHPRA with demonstrated recent experience and clinical skill in provision of care to children aged 0-5 years and their families/carers as a registered nurse (including completion of a new graduate RN program or 12 months full time equivalent experience working as a Registered Nurse)
  • The applicant must be female (designated as specifically a female person under Section 31 of the Anti-Discrimination Act). This is an Identified Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander Position. Applicants for this position must be of Aboriginal descent through parentage, identify as an Aboriginal person and be accepted in the community as such.   • Demonstrated evidence of working within a Multidisciplinary team to facilitate the care planning for families with complex needs and demonstrated awareness of issues impacting on the health of Aboriginal women and children and families and ability to establish therapeutic and trusting relationship using a primary health care approach
  • Demonstrated effective communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated ability to organise and prioritise work and an ability to effectively work both within a team and autonomously
  • Demonstrated commitment to professional development, evidence based practice and an awareness of changes within the health care environment
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and ability to utilise information technology systems within a variety of applications (e.g. Cerner) and commitment to undertake training in electronic health record systems as required
  • Current driver's licence and willingness to use for work purposes.
