The opportunity

We currently have a unique opportunity within our Commercial Lines team for a Risk Engineer to join our national Risk Solutions team based at our Melbourne office. This role is a fantastic opportunity to apply your risk engineering knowledge while providing comprehensive risk assessments and advice to underwriters and best practice mitigation solutions to customers.

You will be provided the opportunity to develop skills through on the job training and structured training programmes, covering insurance, technical and risk assessment. In this role, you will be working mostly independently on customer sites throughout Victoria, whilst being supported and in turn supporting your colleagues within the Risk Solutions team on technical and operational projects.

We are looking for an established Risk Engineer who is highly motivated, innovative, eager to expand technical knowledge, cares about customers and will consistently meet performance targets. Your responsibilities will include, but not limited to:

  • Deliver property risk surveys on SME and commercial customer sites, primarily in Victoria, under guidance of experienced Senior Risk Engineers
  • Support the delivery of strategic and operational initiatives
  • Collaborate with Risk Engineers and underwriters to develop and deliver risk management programs for corporate customers
  • Self-development, particularly of technical risk management skills, primarily through on-the-job training and desktop research
  • Assist with continuous improvement our customer risk management services, including meetings, property surveys, reports and recommendations
  • Assist with developing risk management excellence in QBE staff and customers, through advice, fact sheets, in-person training, webinars or videos

Occasional interstate travel will be required:

Your story so far

  • Curious, friendly, motivated, accountable
  • Driven to innovate, advise and develop self to make a difference to customers
  • Industrial process or manufacturing engineering experience, or specialist risk consulting experience including fire protection equipment
  • Preferred professional engineering degree
  • Strong interest in risk management and/or insurance
  • Proficient use office applications (Word, Excel & PowerPoint)
  • Keen to develop relationship management, communication and negotiating skills
