Project Engineer - System Studies

TasNetworks - Hobart, TAS

Source: uWorkin

About the role

This newly created role will define and oversee Marinus Link's power system studies, including provision of PSSE/PSCAD models, system integration and performance modelling. As part of the ongoing project development, the engineer will also investigate the impact of Marinus Link and associated AC transmission works on Special Protection Schemes (in Tasmania and rest of Australia), and define an approach to extend/replace these SPSs. Guiding a team of experts and consultants undertaking these power system studies, as well as organising, leading and documenting regular meetings for these topics will lead to successfully delivering the requirements of this critical role.

About the Business

At TasNetworks, we own, operate and maintain the electricity transmission and distribution networks in Tasmania, together with a supporting telecommunications network. We deliver a safe, cost-effective and reliable electricity supply to more than 285,000 residential, commercial and industrial customers in Tasmania. We also provide a connection to the Basslink undersea interconnector, and our network supports energy supply to customers in the broader National Electricity Market.

The National Electricity Market is transforming as new renewable energy generation infrastructure replaces ageing thermal generation. Marinus Link and supporting transmission upgrades can support this transition by providing access to a low-cost, clean and reliable energy supply for customers. Project Marinus comprises the proposed Marinus Link high voltage direct current electricity interconnector and the supporting transmission in North West Tasmania; collectively valued at over $3.5 billion. Marinus Link and supporting transmission developments will play a key role in Australia's future electricity grid, as the largest proposed infrastructure project in Tasmania's history.

About you

Extensive knowledge in the design, installation and operation of (E)HV (control and protection) systems will enable you to proactively identify, manage and resolve conflict and issues on a highly complex project. As a tertiary qualified and well-rounded engineer, you will bring to the role detailed understanding of system performance and integration issues of HVDC interconnectors, statcoms or generators, ideally in weak/small transmission networks.
