The Role
The Maritime Docks and Marine Services Systems Program Office (MDMSSPO) located at Garden Island in Sydney are seeking a Chief Engineer to join our team.

The key responsibilities of the EL1 Chief Engineer are as follows:
  • Lead, plan and deliver critical and very complex engineering activities and provide advice in all relevant engineering disciplines and management systems under broad direction.
  • Translate Naval materiel seaworthiness and other technical regulatory requirements, and incorporate these into planning and decision making processes. Implement and maintain a governance framework to address engineering and asset management technical requirements, including Naval materiel seaworthiness requirements.
  • Perform the role of Principal Engineer (PE) of the Authorised Engineering Organisation (AEO) as part of the Defence Marine Support Services (DMSS) Authorised Materiel Seaworthiness Delivery Organisation (AMSDO).
  • Attain and retain the DMSS Engineering Authority and AEO Status.
  • Engage, work collaboratively and provide authoritative engineering advice to a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Lead and ensure safety aspects of Defence materiel systems are considered and incorporated into marine engineering activities.
  • Manage a team of professionals to deliver the engineering responsibilities of the team, and work collaboratively with other functions across the MDMSSPO.
About our Team
The Maritime Docks and Marine Services Systems Program Office (MDMSSPO), part of the Capability Acquisition and Sustainment Group (CASG), is based at Garden Island in Sydney. Collaborating with Industry, the MDMSSPO enables the availability of the Captain Cook Graving Dock (CCGD) at Fleet Base East. In the future, the MDMSSPO will manage the Defence Marine Support Services ‘In Port’ Harbour and Towing (Tug) services in support of Navy.

As MDMSSPO has only recently been established, the current focus of the team is on developing and implementing business processes to enable delivery against our objectives. The MDMSSPO is a challenging and dynamic work environment. The Chief Engineer is a key position in the MDMSSPO, having responsibility to lead the implementation of a fit for purpose asset management framework and engineering function.

  • An ability to acquire knowledge of Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) National Survey of Commercial Vessel requirements and engineering in a maritime environment would be highly beneficial in this role.
