JOB DESCRIPTION

About OpenSC

OpenSC is an impact venture, co-founded by WWF and The Boston Consulting Group. We are on a mission to create technology enabled transparency for supply chains – for the benefit of the planet and the people that live on it.

OpenSC solutions help companies VERIFY claims about sustainable and ethical production in an automated, continuous, and data-backed way. To realise the value this creates, we TRACE products along the supply chain, and SHARE their story with consumers and business partners.

Job Description

We are looking for a talented and passionate individual to support OpenSC’s growth. You will play a critical role in creating technology enabled transparency in new supply chains and new geographies. This goes end-to-end and means innovating and creating (researching / designing / building & implementing) technology solutions that enable and create a new type of data-based transparency and traceability.

In your role as Implementation Engineer, you are the bridge between real world supply chains, and the OpenSC platform. You will work closely with our customers to architect the way the OpenSC platform receives and interacts with data - whether that data comes from a farm, from within a processing plant, or from large scale logistics. While you will work within a multidisciplinary team, as the technical lead within a project team you are responsible for ensuring deployed solutions are scalable, maintainable, and make reliable insights possible..

Each implementation is unique, which is why you’ll work closely with our customers to define a solution that works in-situ, without interfering in day to day operations. You will have the opportunity to design and deploy solutions that include elements of hardware and software integration, and technology partnerships. In all cases, you will be able to take a truly technology-led approach to driving positive impact.

Your role will include solution design, solution architecture, data mapping, deployment management, pre-sales scoping and technical QA.

Your day to day will be filled with the following responsibilities:

  • Business Development & Scoping
  • Work with leadership to scope customer onboarding the OpenSC platform
  • Support costing and pricing for solutions, taking into account any ongoing maintenance considerations
  • Systems Mapping
  • For early stage implementations, map out existing systems and data flows that exist within a supply chain
  • Assess available data for a given supply chain against minimum requirements
  • Develop descriptive models of a given supply chain to support solution prototyping in collaboration with the development and data science teams
  • Technical Ownership
  • Be the primary point of contact for technology partners and internal IT/OT representatives relevant to a given project
  • Design solutions to trace products, as well as to capture data that can be used to automatically verify sustainable and ethical production practices
  • Own E2E solution architecture for a given implementation
  • Identify and promote ways to make each implementation more technically robust
  • Create technical scale-up plans to support extension of a solution across production region or product lines
  • Run either internal or customer-funded technical proof-of-concept sprints to evaluate how technology can be used to achieve a traceability or verification outcome

What We Look For

We’re looking for candidates that share our vision and mission and want to work on a unique solution that will have a meaningful impact on global supply chains. Building a solution like this is not a simple task - we’re looking for people that embrace challenges, are comfortable with uncertainty and will go the extra mile to help us achieve our mission. A genuine desire for a more sustainable human impact on the environment is a must.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Computer Science
  • Required Skills/Experience:
  • 5+ years of relevant industry experience in the architecture or design of technology solutions.
  • A person who demonstrates teamwork in all they do, but also thrives as an independent thinker on the technical aspects of a project.
  • The subject matter expert in the room on all things IoT and edge computing.
  • Comfortable writing code to extract and analyse data from real-world traceability systems and data lakes.
  • Problem-first thinker who creatively and selectively applies technology to a problem.
  • Developed stakeholder management skills including driving and participating in conversations with multiple parties.
  • Clear and concise verbal and written communication skills in English.

Bonus Points For
  • Experience in the management of Android Enterprise devices.
  • Experience managing fleets of IoT devices (e.g. asset trackers, wireless sensor networks, etc).
  • Strong project management skills including work plan development and resourcing/cost estimation of $1M projects.
  • The ability to hold your own in commercial conversations with technology partners and clients.
  • Experience in an IT consultant role.
  • Experience in the AgTech or supply chain / logistics industry.
  • Additional languages spoken (e.g. Mandarin, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Swahili, Bahasa, Cantonese).

In your application, please include a cover letter that answers the question of why you would like to join OpenSC and what you feel you can add to the team.
