Workplace Health and Safety Consultant (WH&S)

Brisbane Infrastructure Division provides high quality and value-for-money asset and program planning, construction, maintenance, and related services to Brisbane ratepayers. Amongst other things our work covers the roads, footpaths, buildings, bridge structures, waste collection, trees and green spaces throughout our City. With a diverse work force of almost 3000 employees, Brisbane Infrastructure has a dedicated safety team.

A temporary vacancy is currently available for an accomplished WH&S professional. This role is based at the Regional Operations Centre (ROC), at Eagle Farm, and reports to the Workplace Health and Safety Coordinator. The primary purpose of this role is to provide specialist WH&S technical advice, and to support WH&S related business improvements which will have a Division wide impact. This includes providing technical review and content development for Brisbane Infrastructure's Safety Management System. The role also provides supportive reporting, communications and special project management functions with the aim of ensuring WH&S legislative compliance and ongoing continuous improvement.

The successful applicant will be self-motivated and confident working in a fast- paced and changing environment. The successful candidate will collaborate with a wide range of stakeholders, understand customer needs, and deliver relevant and practical recommendations to help us achieve Brisbane Infrastructure's Zero Harm strategic goals. Brisbane Infrastructure takes a collaborative cultural approach to safety management. Experience in implementing positive safety initiatives and interventions to develop organisational safety maturity will be an asset to the role. 

Suitable Candidates will join the team bringing:

  • flexible and adaptable teamwork skills and a sound depth of professional experience managing complex projects
  • proven technical competence working with WHS legislation and management systems
  • a collaborative approach to working with a wide range of stakeholders with different operational safety needs but common safety maturity goals.

Please note, this role will require:

  • a tertiary qualification in OHS or a related discipline
  • an open class C driver’s licence.
  • a Criminal History Check.
