About The Role

As a Lead Architect, you will be responsible for planning, managing, evaluating, guiding and monitoring architecture development across Orica’s IT landscape. You will use your expertise to drive the strategic direction and provide expert technical architectural guidance in the network, infrastructure and cloud domains, including on opportunities around virtualisation, software defined networking, cloud infrastructure, security and integration with third-party products.
Working with senior business and IT stakeholders, you will define Orica’s target state IT architecture and develop the implementation roadmap and plan for the next 2-3 years. You will also lead architecture governance and the development of enterprise architecture guiding principles, frameworks, processes and standards.

What You Will Be Doing

Architecture Vision, Strategy and Roadmap

  • Define and maintain the Business Systems (IT) architecture vision and strategy (Enterprise Architecture and Information Architecture) to be adopted and shared by the IT organisation
  • Define and maintain the IT technology roadmap, to address gaps and move towards future state architecture to support growth, optimisation and innovation
  • Direct and guide architecture development across business, information, application, technology, integration
  • Assist with the Cyber security architecture domain interdependencies that effect or influence the non-Cyber domain architectures
Architecture Governance, Standards and Framework
  • Define an IT architecture governance process to align the various architects (solution, data, integration, BI, security, infrastructure, technology, personal IT, applications) with the architecture vision, roadmaps and adopted standards
  • Define architecture standards covering elements such as modelling approaches, metadata management tools, hardware platforms, software solutions and services
  • Define architecture principles, oversee adoption of the architecture framework
Architecture Solutioning
  • Work with the Global Business Engagement Managers to improve business and IT engagement through a better understanding of how IT supports the business objectives
  • Analyse business requirements to gain an understanding of business, IT and user expectations and the required characteristics of Orica’s technologies (including functionality, availability and performance) to develop a high-level design
  • Proactively appraise and modify current technology architectures to identify deficiencies, research alternatives and determine improvements
  • Collaborate with other Lead Architects and Engineers to identify any technology or architectural interdependencies with projects in other architecture domains
  • Maintain complete and accurate documentation of all current technology architectures
What You Bring
  • Direct experience with the following technologies:
  • Azure and AWS cloud solution experience
  • Cisco ISRs and Viptela SD-WAN experience.
  • Windows Infrastructure services
  • 10+ years’ experience with infrastructure, cloud and networking technologies, with responsibility for the development of a complete set of architectural views for an enterprise in accordance with common architecture frameworks
  • Demonstrated experience in leading an enterprise architecture function for a global and geographically dispersed organisation
  • Strategic business acumen and understanding of the IT strategy and ability to design technology solutions to deliver business value
  • Deep technical and business knowledge demonstrated through thought leadership of different network, infrastructure and cloud technologies and supporting solution areas
  • Proven track record architecting enterprise-scale local and wide-area network technologies, network virtualisation, and software defined network design patterns
  • Experience architecting, integrating and implementing infrastructure and cloud services
  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically and understand fundamental implications about business, product, and technical challenges of enterprise application and infrastructure architectures
  • Experience with structured approaches to system development and software development methodologies including Waterfall, Agile and DevOps
  • Strong knowledge of design and architectural patterns
