The Mine Warfare and Clearance Diving Systems Program Office (MCDSPO) located in HMAS Waterhen is seeking a suitably skilled and motivated person to fill the role of APS 6 Professional Engineer. MCDSPO works with Navy and Industry partners to ensure Defence has an enduring youth development program in the field of sail training by delivering sustainment services and various upgrade projects to the STS Young Endeavour. As an APS 6 Professional Engineer, you will have the unique opportunity to apply your skills to this highly exciting portfolio of work, assisting with the implementation of engineering activities to achieve Seaworthiness outcomes, essentially providing ongoing capability to the Royal Australian Navy.

Functions of the Engineering Professional include providing support in the following areas:
  • Engineering Governance and Assurance
  • Design Development and Review
  • Industry Solicitation
  • Verification and Validation
  • Requirements Setting and Risk Reduction

About our Team
MCDSPO within Specialist Ships Branch, provides a range of services to the Royal Australian Navy and the Australian Army. The key objectives of the MCDSPO are to acquire and sustain Mine Warfare, Clearance Diving and Hyperbaric assets so the ADF can fight and win in the Maritime environment. The team is a mixture of APS, Uniform and Industry Partners working collaboratively to achieve the desired Defence outcomes.

Our Ideal Candidate
MCDSPO is seeking a motivated and skilled Engineering Professional with an interest in delivering this significant capability to the ADF. The ideal candidate will have knowledge of the Capability Life Cycle and how it applies to Acquisition and Sustainment organisations.

The successful candidate will have:
  • Skills and experience in Defence systems engineering, ideally with a good understanding of the Defence Capability Life Cycle,
  • Excellent communication, customer and stakeholder engagement skills,
  • Experience in the Tall Ship industry sector (highly desirable but essential),
  • Effective problem solving and deductive reasoning skills,
  • An ability to contribute to a diverse team on complex projects,
  • High-level organisational skills, self-drive and initiative with the ability to influence others to achieve tasks and business objectives, and
  • Sound commercial and business acumen and a demonstrated understanding of the Defence Industry sector in Australia.
