WSPs Australian maritime team is a highly collaborative, dynamic, and focused group of specialists working across regional borders to deliver optimized project across Australia and internationally. We are at the forefront of highly innovative planning, design and development for port, maritime, and intermodal facilities. The team has undergone rapid growth since 2019 and is now looking to grow again to support our recent project successes and a strong pipeline of future projects.

As a Senior / Associate Maritime Engineer, you will have a strong track record in successfully delivering a range of maritime projects to provide optimized and successful project outcomes to our clients. You will be highly collaborative and already embracing new ways of working and innovative solutions to exceed client expectations on the projects you are delivering. You will have experience leading or working as part of a project team in planning, design and project management roles, developing a range of solutions from initial concept through to detailed design and delivery. You will also be active in your network and the wider industry, with a desire to contribute to industry leading initiatives and working groups.

Your Main Responsibilities Will Include

  • Leading design and planning works across various maritime projects, including container terminal, mining/bulk, oil/gas, cruise, shipyard, naval facilities, inland port/intermodal, marinas, port structures and harbor developments.
  • Managing quality, scope, fee, and schedule on projects
  • Working with clients to define their requirements and discuss progress, delivering a high-quality client experience
  • Collaborating with colleagues on port planning, geotechnics, civil and structural design.
  • Assisting with business development and preparation of tenders
  • Providing technical QA on maritime projects and supporting colleagues working on major multidisciplinary projects across Australia
  • Short to medium term site visits (Australia and Overseas) may also become necessary depending on project requirements
  • Working with relevant design codes, legislations, and standards, supporting Engineers to develop their skills
  • Acting as a mentor to new members of staff
  • Experience in planning (automated) container terminals and intermodals will be particularly beneficial
We are looking for Engineers with a sound technical background who share our enthusiasm and determination to develop opportunities across multiple sectors.

Main Requirements
  • 8 to 15 years of experience
  • Degree qualified or equivalent, in Civil or Structural Engineering.
  • Chartered or near Chartered Engineer status with CPEng or RPEQ
  • Significant experience in managing civil/structural/infrastructure projects in the maritime sector.
  • Excellent working knowledge of maritime design and planning, including maritime codes/standards.
  • Experience in the design and inspection of maritime structures such as breakwaters, revetments, quay walls, fender systems, wharfs, jetties, piers, heavy duty paving, etc.
  • A team player with a strong track record in strategically improving the technical capabilities of the project teams

Return to Work Initiative

WSP is initiating a Return to Work Program for people who have had a career break from the industry for a period greater than one year. During the first six months of employment, this program will support applicants through a focused training and mentoring program to upskill their technical and industry standard competencies as well as introducing them to changes in work space practice that we’ve experienced over the past year. The position will also have broad flexibility in working hours and will consider work from home options along with sufficient time in the office to make mentoring and training effective. The position will also have no internal commercial goals for the first 6 months to allow for training and development while engaging the employee in meaningful work with our growing Maritime business.
