Bechtel, a global leader in project management, engineering, procurement and construction, has been selected by WSA Co as its Delivery Partner for the Western Sydney Airport, a $5.3 billion greenfield facility in Badgerys Creek, New South Wales. This will be a landmark project for both New South Wales and Australia, and is due for completion at the end of 2026.

The Construction Interface Engineer will be responsible for supporting and coordinating the Sydney Metro construction interfaces on the project site. The role will include ensuring planning, programming and delivery of works are undertaken in a manner that minimizes Interface risks between all relevant parties.

The Construction Interface Engineer will support processes to ensure the Project Contractors provide the information required for the Delivery Partner to manage the relevant interfaces with other contactors and third parties.

Work Location: This role will be based in Badgerys Creek, south west Sydney.

Position Summary

  • Administer Project coordination and interface processes
  • Monitor, manage and coordinate the integration of the works carried out by different Project Contractors and the Sydney Metro
  • Responsible for the development and administration of the Shared Access Roads Protocol which shall coordinate the use of parts of the Airport Site including the shared use of construction access through the work Airport Sites.
  • Coordinate access to site by Sydney Metro, including facilitating the review of application documentation and permits
  • Support development of Site Access Licence documentation for Sydney Metro
  • Develop and administer audit and compliance program so to ensure Sydney Metro operate within permitted purpose and limitations of Site Access Licences
  • Keep the Project Contractors and other relevant parties informed of the timing and nature of any proposed or planned works
  • Support the prevention of Project Contractors interfering with, obstructing, impeding, damaging, or delaying the works being carried out by Sydney Metro
  • Ensure the Project Contractors schedules address and include allowance for work, activities and interfaces between the WSA Co Project Contractors, interface contractors and Sydney Metro
  • Identify actual or potential interface issues between all relevant parties for the Works identified and record them in the Interface Issues Register.
  • Support management and mitigation strategies identified interface issues.
  • Support clear delineation of the responsibilities of the Delivery Partner, WSA Co, the Project Contractors and Sydney Metro in relation to each identified interface issue and details the data to be communicated by each party consistent the contractual obligations of such parties.
  • Reviewing the Contractor’s management and coordination of the interfaces on the Project, including the interfaces relating to the workers and visitors and management of Airport Site access, pedestrian and vehicular traffic movement(s)
  • Reviewing the programs and plans prepared by the Project Contractors pursuant to the Project Contracts, ensure such plans and programs address and include allowance for work, activities and interfaces between the Project Contractors and other stakeholders
  • Reviewing that the Project Contractors’ schedules address and include allowance for work, activities and interfaces between the WSA Co Project Contractors, interface contractors and stakeholders.
  • Coordinate and attend (or chair, at WSA Co’s request) all meetings of each committee and group constituted pursuant to the Master Interface Principles including the Joint Coordination Group (JCG)
  • Reviewing the Project Contractors' compliance with the Master Interface Principles; and ensure that all relevant parties comply with the requirements of the Master Interface Principles Deed Poll and Master Interface Principles.
  • Support the delivery of the Works and the Project in a manner that minimises interface risks between all relevant parties, including WSA Co, the Delivery Partner, WSA Co advisors, the Project Contractors, the Commonwealth, NSW State Departments, agencies and Authorities;
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering or Management discipline from an accredited college or university or equivalent experience
  • Demonstrated skills in oral and written communication
  • Interpersonal skills and able to interact closely with client and contractors while maintaining necessary levels of commercial awareness
  • Commercial acumen within a technical environment
  • Ability to engage in a collaborative working environment with internal and external stakeholders
Preferred Qualifications
  • A recognised degree in an Engineering or Management discipline from an accredited college or university or equivalent experience
  • Minimum 9 years’ engineering experience on large infrastructure projects
  • Practical work experience in Aviation and/or Rail
