We are currently looking for 2x Leading Hands - Civil, for a Local Government SOR

Your new role
We are currently searching for 2 x Civil Works Leading Hands to join a local government in the southern suburbs for an initial three month contract.

Responsibilities include:

  • Support Works Controller by supervising infrastructure projects and maintenance works for the repair and maintenance of the City’s municipal infrastructure, including but not limited to roads, footpaths, drainage and street furniture etc, in accordance with specifications and the allocated budgets.
  • Implement maintenance and construction works for the City.
  • Monitor utilities and contractors carrying out tasks and projects in the City.
  • Supervise co-workers as required.
  • Assist with footpath hazard identification reporting.
  • Assist in the formulation of forward works programs.
  • Organising contractors for projects as directed by the Supervisors and Works Controllers.
  • Provide relief in other business units as directed by the Supervisors and Works Controllers.
  • Implement traffic management plans on site and give feedback on their operation.
  • Develop and maintain a high standard of service to both external and internal customers.
  • Operate all plant and equipment related to the construction and maintenance of municipal infrastructure as directed by the Works Controller such as excavators, loaders, skid steers, steel drum rollers, padfoot rollers, forklifts, multi rollers, jack hammers, compactors, road cutting saws, picks and shovels etc. Undertake all the necessary skills as classified at level 6 and below in accordance with City works EBA.

What you'll need to succeed
  • Must posses competent team leader skills and ability to make decisions on site.
  • Sound knowledge of safe work practices and administering them in the field.
  • Experience in road maintenance and construction.
  • Demonstrated practical experience using road maintenance and construction equipment, hand tools and minor plant.
  • Previous experience in formulating forward work programs.
  • Basic understand of asset management principals and ability to gain understanding of asset management software.
  • Current C class licence.
  • Safety awareness training card.
