The Institute of Vector-Borne Disease (IVBD) houses the World Mosquito Program (WMP) at Clayton Campus, WMP is an international collaborative research program designed to prevent the transmission of arboviral diseases. These diseases threaten the health of people living in tropical and subtropical regions and WMP aim to improve global health whilst significantly reduce the financial burden on local health systems in these regions. The WMP is currently operating over 12 countries and continuously expanding.

There is an exciting opportunity to be part of a global not-for-profit initiative that calls Monash University home. The institute of vector-borne diseases (IVBD) are collaborating with the World Mosquito Program (WMP) on protecting countries around the world on diseases such as Zika, dengue and chikungunya. This broader team is committed to the research and innovation on prevention and strengthening the reduction of the threat of mosquito-borne diseases around the world.

The Opportunity

We have a great opportunity for an experience Mechatronic Engineer to join the Product Development team and support the innovation happening within World Mosquito Program (WMP). Reporting to the Product Development Manager, your purpose in this role will be the design and development of new technologies supporting the World Mosquito Program. This will include conceptualising and developing automated mechanical systems, creating and maintaining CAD models and drawings as well as prototyping new designs as required.

The Role

As the Mechatronic Engineer, you will have a focus on innovation and efficiency, you will work as an effective member of your team but with the autonomy to use your initiative.

Responsibilities include;
  • Conceptualise, develop, prototype and test bespoke tools and automation systems for mosquito rearing, with a focus on scale and productivity
  • Create complex 3D models of concepts as well as generating manufacturing-ready CAD models and drawings
  • Manage multiple concurrent projects, while meeting applicable deadlines
  • Assist with experimental testing of prototype and production designs

The Person

The successful applicant will possess a degree in the relevant field or similar to Mechatronics Engineering with succeeding relevant experience and broad knowledge within the field.

This role is a 12-month fixed-term position with full-time hours; however, flexible working arrangements may be negotiated.
