Exciting opportunity for autonomous role including both drafting and estimating on commercial facade.

Your new company
This national company with renowned clients and a strong portfolio seek a senior Estimator/Drafter to work with their Melbourne team with the main focus of: Designing projects from concept through to installation.
Work out production and materials costs and prepare preliminary concepts or designs in response to tenders and customer requests. Be supported by a team who have a combined experience of 50 years in a new exciting company.

Your new role

  • Ability to prepare quotes, bills of materials and material take offs
  • A related bachelor’s degree with at least 2 years of post-qualification experience in a similar role preferred - architectural facades, commercial fit outs, fabrication and engineering;
  • Experience with mechanical design work and knowledge in manufacturing and fabrication processes including cutting, folding, welding and assembly processes, as well as a high degree of experience interpreting and preparing building plans and workshop drawings
  • Ability to read and interpret blue print documents and understand complex mathematical relationships that underpin mechanical analysis
  • Good sketching and concept generation skills and strong attention to detail;
  • Experience with 3D design packages, preferably AutoCAD and SketchUp
  • Experience in Sheetmetal design, in particular steel and aluminium works
  • A working experience of MS Office

What you'll need to succeed
  • Determine manufacturing requirements for small specialised works to larger building projects
  • Work out production and materials costs and prepare preliminary concepts or designs in response to tenders and customer requests
  • Having regard to regulatory requirements such as ADR’s and industry standards, prepare designs and related design output such as drawings, bills of material, etc
  • Ensure that the design output is generated in a timely manner consistent with the quoted or budgeted requirements and that designs reflect the most efficient means of production, including deciding the need for aids to production such as tooling, design and/or facilitate the production of related tooling or processes and where necessary, for long lead items, prepare advanced bills of material or purchase requisitions which will assist in the timely acquisition of parts or raw materials
  • Supporting internal and external stakeholders through all issues relating to the design, fabrication and manufacture of their projects out of our Sydney and Victorian manufacturing sites
