JOB DESCRIPTION

The Opportunity

This role will be working within the microfabrication laboratory. As the Microfabrication Engineer you will develop lab-scale and volume manufacturing methods for microfluidic devices, verify the performance of manufactured devices, and provide process specification documents for the design and manufacture of the medical device by subcontractors. You will also work closely with industrial collaborators and subcontractors.

This role reports to Associate Professor Robert Nordon and has no direct reports.

  • Salary, Level 6/7: $88,782 to $105,395 per annum + 17% superannuation
  • Full time
  • Fixed-Term role – 12 months
  • Location: Kensington – Sydney, Australia

Selection Criteria:

Level 6:

  • Tertiary degree in mechanical engineering and biomedical engineering with subsequent relevant experience in microfluidic design and fabrication.
  • Practical and theoretical knowledge to evaluate the design and manufacture of microfabricated devices.
  • Extensive working knowledge of the methods used to fabricate, bond and test microfluidic devices including metrology.
  • A track record for the design, fabrication and testing of novel microfluidic devices for biological applications.
  • Experience in microfluidics and industrial translation with academic and commercial outputs including patents, highly regarded.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to communicate and interact with a diverse range of stakeholders and work effectively within interdisciplinary teams.
  • Knowledge of health and safety responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training.

Level 7 (in addition to the above):

  • Strong interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to direct an engineering team and to liaise with a diverse range of stakeholders.
  • An understanding of medical device regulatory affairs.
  • At least 4 years of experience implementing milestone-driven research programs with industry partners.
  • Ability to lead an engineering team with evidence of innovation in this field including development of novel microfabricated designs and generation of intellectual property.
