The company

This highly regarded and successful mid-tire mining principal boasts an impressive portfolio of gold mines throughout Australia and overseas. Operating with some of the highest-grade gold mines in Australia they are a business that's fast growing and heavily back by their investors.

The project

With over 30 years of open cut mining experience at site, this large gold mine is moving into an UG mining operation. With 12 months+ of decline construction underway they have appointed a reputable mining contractor to carry out development & ground support with the aim to move into production in around 12 months.

Residential or DIDO

The site is located 30 minutes from the town of West Wyalong (population 4,000) and around 1 hour from Forbes (10,000). Most employees of the site reside in either town. Busses offer regular transport in and out of site from the two towns. Benefits of living in Forbes and West Wyalong include;-

The roster & flexibility

Typically, this role will run on a 5:2 - 4:3 roster. However, depending on the skill set, ability and location of the person there will be some flexibility around days on and days off.

The role

This is a unique opportunity to join a highly regarded team of mining professionals in a senior role and take the lead in a team of UG hard rock mining geotechnical engineers. Reporting to the Integrated Planning Manager, your responsibilities will include;-

  • Playing a key role in a large team of open cut & underground geotechnical engineers
  • Managing and developing 2 UG geotechnical engineers
  • Team development and hiring as the operation develops
  • Technical responsibilities include;-
    • Planning and conducting geotechnical design and analysis in relation to underground excavations
    • Provide cost effective, functional designs that meet design criteria and maximise recovery of the reserve, all whilst ensuring safety is the number one priority
    • Design, implement and review QA/QC specifications and documents for mining activities
    • Assist with pastefill design and specifications during feasibility stage
    • Construct geotechnical/structural stress models, identifying solutions to risk areas within the LOM
    • Input into the formulation of mining budgets and forecasts

Your value

You will be armed with at least 3-5 years UG hard rock mining experience under your belt and have worked in a role responsible for geotechnical engineering design and hands on operational experience in the field. You will also;-

  • Tertiary qualifications (preferably mine engineering or geology)
  • Sub level open stope mining experience
  • Exposure to pastefill mining method (highly regarded not essential)
  • Proven commitment to safety, quality and best practice concepts
  • Experience with industry standard geotechnical numerical modelling software and seismic analysis software
