The position offered is a full time permanent position available for an intermediate structural design engineer.

This position is for work in our Torquay Victorian office - it is not a work from home arrangement.

ACNL Engineers Pty Ltd are an expanding firm that undertake work in the low rise, housing and commercial design areas with some exposure to industrial works. The applicant can expect a variety of design work within our field of exposure.

Applicants must have experience in the design of both architectural and volume builder housing and it is preferred if they some exposure to commercial projects.

Design experience in timber, steel and concrete to the relevant Australian Standards will be a pre-requisite.

Our office is located in Torquay Victoria 15 minutes from Geelong and an hour from Melbourne. Torquay is at the start of the Great Ocean Road and offers a beach/country/city lifestyle that is unparalleled in the state.

The successful applicant will have the following qualifications and experience.

  • A Bachelor Degree in Civil Engineering (structural) or a proven equivalent.
  • 4 to 10 years minimum engineering design experience with a minimum of 2 years in Australian residential housing (please note that applicants without this minimum experience will not be considered)
  • Good knowledge of design in residential slab and footing design, commercial footings, precast panel design,factory floor design, timber design including residential framing design, steel design, concrete design.
  • Excellent knowledge of detailing so as to communicate the design intent for construction.
  • Have experience in design of stormwater systems for small to medium commercial, multi-unit and detached residential properties (preferred not sentential).
  • Have a working knowledge and experience in the following engineering software;
  • Multiframe or Spacegass or similar (essential)
  • SLOG or CORD (Preferred but not essential)
  • AutoCad or Bricscad (essential)
  • Rapt and / or Induct(Preferred)
  • Have knowledge and understanding of the Australian building and construction industry to be able to offer cost effective designs to our clients and be able to offer alternative solutions when necessary.
  • Understand the concepts of sustainability in the design of members so that designs are not unduly contributing to climate change.
  • Must have a current drivers license and have a competent driving record.
  • Have good computer skills and a good knowledge of MS Office programs including Outlook.

The applicant will also have the following attributes;

  • Must understand the needs, requirements and preferences of domestic builders and be able to design to those criteria.
  • Must have a service focused attitude and be responsive to the clients.
  • The ability to liaise directly with professional and para-professionals.
  • Have time management skills.
  • Have excellent English written and verbal communication skills.

The successful applicant will be able to work independently or in a team, work under pressure, work to allocated timelines and budgets and will be directly responsible to the Directors of the firm.
