Senior Structural Steel Estimator

DH Steel is a Structural Steel company based in Melbourne's Western Suburbs, looking to grow to meet increasing customer demands whilst maintaining our mission statement of "Taking the time to do the job right". With a strong emphasis of preferring quality over quantity. We use the latest software and technology to design and install residential structural steel throughout Victoria.

We are seeking a motivated, mature, pro-active person who has estimating experience in Residential Steel, Townhouse Developments and Commercial Structural Steel. Some of our recent projects include the Yarra Bend Townhouse Development in Alphington, Sanctuary Lakes Shopping Centre Extension, Westbourne Grammar Extension in Truganina and Our Lady of Mercy College in Heidelberg. Reporting to the General Manager, you will have responsibility for managing the tender process and documentation, preparing accurate tenders, quotes and budgets, and implementing and improving the estimation process within the company.


  • Lead a team of Estimators to prepare quote for all material, labour, plant and equipment to carry out supply and installation of structural steel works for any structural steel project
  • Interpreting the Engineering and Working Drawings provided by the Builder.
  • Prepare take-off quantities of steel and material lists.
  • Create opportunities for new customers
  • Follow Up on existing quotes and customers
  • Provide Summary Reports etc. for tracking
  • Work in a cooperative/harmonious team environment

  • Organised and Flexible, with an open mind to explore new ideas.
  • Attention to detail, with a strong emphasis on accuracy and consistency.
  • Good communication skills and Balanced Judgement.
  • Ability to interpret Architectural, Engineering and Fabrication drawings.
  • Knowledge of residential/commercial building processes and techniques.
  • Knowledge of fabrication processes and techniques.

Ideally the candidate would have a minimum of 5 years experience in a similar role.

Flexible working hours and a negotiable salary package to be based on skills and experience. Please note that it is a requirement that the candidate must be either an Australian Citizen or eligible to work in Australia.
