The Project Manager - Network Infrastructure Engineer is responsible for the design, build and construct of TPG Telecom’s physical network, primarily within the Mission Critical environments such as Data Centres and POP Site facilities.

Reporting to the Field Operations Manager, the key duties and responsibilities of the role include:

  • The design & deployment of telecommunications physical network infrastructure to cater for a wide range of IT&T requirements.
  • Align with various internal teams to assist with the delivery of network & customer services.
  • Work with vendors to procure appropriate equipment (including racks, power distribution, cable management etc) to ensure the highest of installation standards are met.
  • Order and arrange customer collocation racks, including power and telco infrastructure connections for all TPG Telecom collocation sites and 3rd party Data Centres.
  • Manage all cross connects, for 3rd party Data Centres and TPG Telecom collocation sites.
  • Keep internal databases updated with required information.
  • Work closely with Field Operations to deploy all IT&T network infrastructure.
  • Work with Field Operations to understand site AC and DC power capacity, heat load and backup generator capabilities.
  • Manage UPS power connections to racks.
  • Plan and manage the expansion of electrical and mechanical plant in TPG Telecom facilities.
  • Building and site exits including the relocation and decommissioning/removal of physical network and facilities.
To be considered for this role you will require the following:

  • Project Management skills – to deliver from initiation through to handover to BAU team.
  • Excellent communication skills to successfully manage working with cross functional teams (IT, IP & Voice Engineers).
  • Ability to identify risks and issues and plan appropriate response/mitigation strategies.
  • Strong business acumen to liaise with all facets of the business to achieve total project completion.
  • Understanding of Mission Critical Infrastructure, Security & Compliance as required across different areas.
  • Solid understanding of the management of Data Centre spaces, electrical requirements and copper communications.
  • Solid knowledge of Carrier Exchanges, including Data Centre cabling techniques, AC and DC power distribution systems, UPS and Data Centre facilities and computer room air conditioning plant.
  • Understanding & ability to calculate main and emergency power requirements for network expansion projects.
  • Extensive knowledge of copper and fibre cable installations, standard (ACMA) and low impact installation under the Telecommunications ACT.
  • Experience creating Rack Elevations, calculating power requirements and deploying equipment nationally.
  • Equipment installation and deployment experience including following and/or developing standards.
  • Ability to follow commercial agreements, ensuring adherence to terms and conditions outlined by legal bounding documents.
  • Organise the tendering for large network roll-outs.
  • Writing statements of work/MOP or engineering work orders.
  • Basic knowledge of IP/Ethernet, MPLS, SDH, ATM and DWDM equipment.
  • Exposure to Cisco (CRS, 7609, 7206, 10K and 3750 series), Huawei (Metro and OSN series), Ciena (OTN) and Alcatel-Lucent Multi-service Edge equipment.
  • High-level computer, MS Suite, drawing and engineering application experience centred on telecommunication applications.
  • Awareness of the impact of making mistakes on a production network and can follow process and change management methodologies for seamless commissioning and integration activities.
