To support our success, we are seeking a Principal Mechanical Engineer to join our team in Perth.

What does the role involve?

  • Approving and delivering mechanical design in accordance with sound design principles, practices and specifications to meet operational, safety and functional requirements
  • Preparing conceptual and detailed design of metals processing plants and associated services
  • Defining and recommending design methods, specifications and performance of functional requirements for new projects
  • Undertaking or supervising the preparation of feasibility studies, surveys and reports, design layouts, bill of quantities and cost estimates. Generating equipment specifications and support the equipment evaluation and procurement activities during project execution.
  • Ensuring mechanical designs meet clients’ expectations by maintaining a high level of communication with clients
  • Collaborating with the broader Sedgman business to provide technical leadership with respect to base and precious metals studies and projects
  • Leading and coaching a team of specialist Mechanical Engineers and Designers to deliver high quality solutions to our clients

What are we looking for?
  • Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical)
  • Registered as a Chartered or Professional Engineer will be highly regarded; however, not essential
  • At least 15 years Mechanical Design Engineering experience in the base and precious metals sector, preferably with EPC experience
  • Ability to undertake the lead role and coordinate a team of Mechanical Engineers and Designers is required
  • Experience with minerals comminution equipment such as crushing, screening, and milling is very important in this role.
  • Experience with wet minerals processing and separation equipment is equally important in this role.
  • Experience with dry materials handling equipment with multiple commodities such as conveyors will be highly regarded
  • Site-based practical experience with commissioning, operations and problem-solving issues will be highly regarded
  • You will have experience leading and mentoring junior Engineers and enjoy these responsibilities
  • Communication and leadership skills combined with the ability to provide advanced technical solutions and problem solve are essential to the role
