The Postdoctoral Fellow will contribute to and undertake research and development in the field of CFD-DEM modelling of pyrolyzer and chemical leaching processes, in close collaboration with a ProMO group of School of Chemical Engineering, led by Associate Professor Yansong Shen.

About The Role
  • Level A - Salary, $97,368 to $104,143 per annum + 17% superannuation
  • Fixed term – 12 months (with the potential to extend for another 12 months, subject to performance)
  • Full time (35 hours per week)
  • Location: Kensington – Sydney, Australia

The role of Research Associate reports to Associate Professor Yansong Shen and has nil direct reports.

Specific Responsibilities For This Role Include
  • Conducts research in the area of CFD-DEM modelling of reacting flows, including non-spherical particles fluid-particle reacting flows and affordable industry-scale simulations, independently and as part of a team.
  • Prepare project quarterly, yearly and final reports.
  • Contribute to the writing of scientific papers and reports for international journals and progress reporting to other researchers and industry partners.
  • Assist with the coordination of research activities and actively contribute to research outputs to meet project milestones.
  • Contribute to the preparation of research proposal submissions to funding bodies and actively seek collaboration with industry partners as appropriate.
  • Participate in and/or present at conferences and/or workshops relevant to the project as required.
  • Assist with the supervision of research students in the research area where required.
  • Cooperate with all health and safety policies and procedures of the university and take all reasonable care to ensure that your actions or omissions do not impact on the health and safety of yourself or others.


To Be Successful In This Role You Will Have

About the successful applicant
  • PhD (or soon to be awarded) in Computer Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, or related area.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct independent research with limited supervision.
  • Demonstrated track record of publications and conference presentations relative to opportunity.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team, collaborate across disciplines and build effective relationships.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to communicate and interact with a diverse range of stakeholders and students.
  • Knowledge and experience in CFD-DEM modelling of pyrolyzer and chemical leaching processes, including non-spherical particles reacting flows and affordable industry scale simulations, and open source coding of OpenForm and MFIX.
  • Knowledge of health and safety responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training.
