JOB DESCRIPTION

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Protection and Control Engineer to join our Secondary Assets team based at our Mount Waverley head office in a full time permanent capacity.

This role will be responsible for directly contributing to the optimization and performance of United Energy's secondary assets (protection, control, operational metering, monitoring schemes) through the analysis, development and implementation of cost-effective asset management strategies, policies and standards to ensure the long-term viability of our network.

The ideal candidate for this role will have a strong background in the electricity industry, particularly involving asset management. In addition, this candidate will have a strong continuous improvement mindset - always keeping abreast of new technologies and looking for new and innovative ways to improve our network.

Key duties and responsibilities:

  • Develop, maintain and communicate engineering policies, standards, technical specifications, processes and procedures for secondary assets that support sustained business performance whilst ensuring alignment with recognised standards and compliance with statutory, licence and regulatory obligations
  • Prepare and review technical scopes of works for projects and other works on the network
  • Assist with tender evaluations and produce technical recommendations
  • Review of engineering designs including equipment settings & configurations
  • Develop and maintain lifecycle management plans and long term investment plans for secondary assets to feed into the business planning cycle and business approval process
  • Undertake network incident investigations and analyse asset performance in order to identify issues and trends and initiate appropriate responses in order maintain network performance
  • Provide effective engineering support and technical advice to others, in order to maintain the operational integrity of the electricity network
  • Support the development of graduate engineers and junior engineers within the business

Required knowledge, skills and experience:

  • Degree qualification in Electrical Engineering or related discipline
  • Understanding of SCADA & distribution management and communications systems
  • Excellent understanding and knowledge of protection & control schemes
  • Awareness of the latest technology advancements and trends in the field of protection & control
  • Knowledge of asset management principles, engineering risk assessments and financial management
  • Extensive relevant industry experience in the electrical utilities industry
  • Demonstrated experience in asset management
  • Demonstrated technical leadership experience
