About The Project

McConnell Dowell is the constructor within the Western Program Alliance (WPA) which forms part of the Victorian State government’s ambitious level crossing removal program. The Alliance brings together the Level Crossing Removal Project (LXRP), Metro Trains Melbourne (MTM), and Arup and Mott MacDonald as design partners.

WPA was formed in 2017 and following the successful completion of several major projects, is now focused on delivering the level crossing removals at Werribee (Werribee Street & Cherry Street), Hoppers Crossing (Old Geelong Road) and Cranbourne (the Cranbourne Line Upgrade), as well as developing future works projects.

Your Opportunity

We are currently seeking applications from experienced and highly skilled engineering professionals to join our team in the position of Engineering Coordinator. In this role, you will be the interface between the Design and Delivery teams, by coordinating the delivery of packages through sound and compliant design management practices and engineering solutions which drive economic, programmed and risk management outcomes. You will also be responsible in ensuring the compliance with company policies, procedures and standards in relation to design and engineering activities conducted on tenders and projects.

As Engineering Coordinator, You Will Be Accountable For

  • Ensuring that all design consultants are advised of their obligations under applicable legislation, codes of practice, the Project Execution Plan and all conditions set out in the contractual documents, and that those obligations are met
  • Developing overall time and cost targets for design
  • Coordinating the engineering option selection to deliver best value outcomes
  • Organising and coordinating engineering activities to conform to construction schedules so as to complete the works within the required timeframe whilst constantly monitoring the status of planning, safety, environmental and quality activities
  • Coordinating the design review and approval process involving parties external to design team
  • Ensuring that design deliverables are subject to effective internal review prior to submission to the Client and other external parties
  • Working with engineering and construction staff to develop and accommodate appropriate construction methods, construction execution procedures and inspection and test plans that are consistent with achieving the design intent
  • Providing feedback to the construction project personnel on construction details
  • Providing drawing and technical documentation as required
  • Conducting engineering reviews and risk assessments of contracts in progress
  • Ensuring that non-conformances are reported and that suitable remedial and corrective actions are planned and implemented within the required timeframe
  • Reviewing risks relating to the design and construction of the works
  • Assisting with technical evaluation of offers from suppliers and subcontractors
  • Ensuring construction feedback is provided to designers and that construction and design interface issues in the field are resolved

Requirements For This Role Are
  • Bachelor Degree in Engineering
  • 7-10 years engineering experience in the construction industry with a demonstrated success in managing design consultants to time and cost targets, engineering standards and contract requirements
  • Strong leadership and communication abilities
  • Competent in negotiation
  • Ability to form and maintain external consultant relationships
  • A demonstrated understanding of contract management and cost control
  • A demonstrates flexibility and resilience in dealing with complex issues and an ability to deploy sound problem-solving methodologies
