Quantum Rail is a specialist rail signally firm, providing a full suite of rail signalling designs and control systems, specialising in complex and innovative projects.

We believe in the power of investing in people and have created a highly competent team who are genuinely interested in providing the best possible outcomes from our work. Currently, we are seeking an experienced Senior / Principle Signalling Engineer to work from our Melbourne, Brisbane, or Adelaide offices. This role will be accountable for all signalling design activities across key major infrastructure projects including circuit design, architecture drawings, control tables, interlocking principles, and application data.

Responsibilities:

Our Senior / Principle Signalling Engineers have a number of responsibilities including but not limited to those listed below:

  • Lead, produce and verify the design of the signalling systems in accordance with client requirements, applicable standards, and Quantum’s processes.
  • Ensure design compliance through requirement traceability.
  • Maintain accountability of all design package elements during the full design lifecycle.
  • Ensure the designers working under your guidance understand the project requirements and all junior design outputs meet those requirements.
  • Assist with risk assessments and analysis using the appropriate tools and methods.
  • Perform independent checking of signalling design.
  • Participate in site testing and commissioning activities.
  • Lead and participate in inter-disciplinary coordination with track, civil, overhead, traction power, combined services route, structures, safety assurance, and other project teams.
  • Produce signalling related documentation, such as Signalling Functional Specifications, design reports, feasibility studies and tender submissions.
  • Comply with all contractual obligations and change management procedures.
  • Be proactive in communicating scope change, modification of requirement and opportunities to improve outcomes.

Required Experience and Qualifications

We are seeking a candidate that ideally meets the qualifications below:

  • Tertiary qualifications, specifically a Bachelor of Engineering Degree in Electrical/Electronic/Computer or equivalent field, which is eligible to be registered by an Australian professional engineering body.
  • 7 + years’ experience (or equivalent) designing and verifying signalling schemes, circuits, calculations, data and software.
  • Hold valid design and/or testing competencies and licenses such as DPTI, ARTC, MTM and/or V/Line Signalling Design SoC and Testing SoC or other Australian or international railways.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of signalling design principles
  • Proficiency in design tools, including MicroStation and/or AutoCAD.
  • Control systems knowledge and competencies.
  • A proven ability in building strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders and being adept at working in fast paced and agile environments.
  • Excellent communication skills with strong attention to detail.

Desired Attributes:

  • Experience in large scale rail systems delivery projects with multidisciplinary coordination.
  • Previous participation in formal mentorship programs.
  • Hold a membership in Chartered Professional Engineering of Engineers Australia (CPEng), Registered Professional Engineer of Professionals Australia (RPeng) and/or Member of the Institute of Railway Signalling Engineers (MIRSE).
