Reporting to the Technical Director - Rollingstock Engineering, the Principal Consultant will be responsible for performing a range of rollingstock engineering activities across a portfolio of large-scale complex engineering rail projects. The opportunity will provide you with a collaborative environment in which to apply and develop your expertise, in a business that will invest in you.

The role:

  • Responsible for the provision of Rolling Stock consulting services to high profile clients across complex, multi-disciplinary projects & programmes in the Rail sector.
  • Capture and share client need's by building strong relationships and generating confidence through engineering excellence with a commitment to satisfactory outcomes.
  • Provide clear and robust Rolling Stock centered Systems Engineering solutions for Client's needs.
  • Manage tenders & bids, including the production of documentation and delivery of client presentations/and or lead the technical contribution/formulation of the project methodology.
  • Provide technical leadership for clients and projects through the confident leadership of multi-disciplined teams.
  • Deliver projects to quality and time by coordinating multiple resources and the consistent management of commercial & financial drivers; project deliverables, contract interpretation, margin and utilisation.
  • Proactively seek consulting opportunities, communicating our broader Engineering & People capabilities and the value our Systems Engineering expertise brings to client's projects.
  • Encourage team working & collaboration through open and transparent communication where individuals are empowered to share accountability within a project team.

Required experience & skills:

  • Senior Engineering competencies with core Rolling Stock experience in both client-side and manufacturer-side leadership positions. Substantial System Engineering experience would be desirable.
  • An in-depth knowledge and detailed understanding of complex rail infrastructure projects & programmes including: Rollingstock; Signalling & Train Control (ETCS, CBTC, ATP, ATO etc) and Operations & Maintenance.
  • Evidenced experience in the delivery of Rolling Stock projects including system integration with modern train control systems such as ETCS, CBTC, ATP or ATO.
  • Experience in identifying, winning and developing new commercial opportunities for Rolling Stock consultancies and areas Systems Engineering for the wider Organisation will be considered favourably.
  • Bachelor level qualifications in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering discipline.
  • Additional qualifications in Project Management, Engineering Management and/or Business Management is desirable.
  • Have obtained or working towards a chartered or equivalent professional status from a relevant institution (e.g. CPEng, RPEQ, NER, etc.)
  • A thorough knowledge of Systems Engineering processes and practices and Systems Engineering tools such as IBM, Rational DOORS, MBSE tools etc.
