The Role: Reliability Engineer, Maintenance (Maules Creek, NSW)

An outstanding opportunity has become available for Reliability Engineer to join the Maintenance team in Maules Creek. The Reliability Engineer will provide Mechanical Engineering support to the Reliability Department, conducting analytical work to be used to identify, quantify and implement defect elimination activities to improve the overall performance and ensure all performance targets for Mining equipment and Coal handling & processing plant are achieved in cost effective, timely and safe manner. 

To be successful in the role you will:

  • Complete the daily investigation and weekly reporting of downtime events and the diagnosis of root causes, to assist in providing permanent rectification of defects within the plants, and identify key business risks.
  • Conduct investigations through the application of a structured process such as Root Cause Analysis (RCA), failure mode & effect analysis (FMEA), to develop action plans to increase Mean Time between Failures (MTBF) and reduce Mean Time to Repair (MTTR).
  • Develop Standard jobs, Procedures, and continually review and optimise maintenance strategy.
  • Coordinate plant equipment improvement trials, including technical input, tracking and reporting to ensure alignment of all trial work using the Whitehaven Management of Change procedure.
  • Review criticality analysis to ensure plant events are documented, tracked and prioritized through risk review.
  • Identify the plant bottlenecks and facilitate the improvements for reducing unit costs.
  • Collaborate with Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) to identify and adopt technologies and practices that will improve equipment performance and reliability.
  • Prepare engineering reports to meet Whitehaven requirements. In addition, review Whitehaven engineering specifications and update as required.
  • Prepare project charters to justify capital projects for maintenance teams when required.
  • Support executions of Capital and Non-capital project for maintenance team when required
  • Support planning and execution of major shutdown tasks when required
  • Assist in preparing, managing and controlling the Reliability budgets.
  • Deliver Reliability Engineering reports as required to meet the needs of the business. This includes any Daily/weekly/monthly reporting for Maintenance teams.
  • Ensure collection and maintenance of data, specifically focusing on production loss (downtime data). Implement technology and enablers for capturing machine performance and improving Overall Equipment Effectiveness.
  • Ensure Condition Monitoring result reviewed and recommendation provided to prevent unplanned downtime and address reliability issued picked from the reports
  • Provide advice and appropriate corrective action recommendations to Maintenance and Operations teams through updates of condition monitoring reports, noting any concerning observations that may require corrective work in the future.
  • Manage systems for the storage of condition and performance monitoring data. This includes vibration data collection, oil analysis and NDT (Non Destructive Testing).
  • Comply with all reasonable and lawful instructions that are consistent with your contract of employment
  • Provide cover and support to Planning team when planning team member on leave when required

 The successful applicant will possess the following qualifications, experience and qualities:

  • Undergraduate degree (Bachelor) qualification in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Strong understanding of engineering theories and applications essential.
  • Minimum of five (5) years’ in the mining or heavy industry or mineral processing environments.
  • Strong working knowledge of Scada and/or Mine management and/ or Fleet management and/ or Availability & Loss management systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to diagnose problems and identify potential solutions by thinking out side of the box delivering alternative outcomes.
  • Well-developed analytical skills with proven ability to think and act strategically.
  • Ability to communicate effectively at all levels of the organisation with excellent presentation and reporting skills.
  • Advance level proficiencies in Microsoft Office tools such as Excel, Project, PowerPoint and Word.
  • Current Unencumbered New South Wales “C” Class Drivers Licence.
  • Working knowledge of Maintenance Planning and CMMS.
  • Familiarity with the Mines Safety and Inspection Regulations.
  • Familiarity with relevant Australian Standards.
