Engineer Applications

  • Develop and deploy web based tools and applications for a wide range of stakeholders
  • Mine to port exposure in Rio Tinto Iron Ore
  • Work in a cutting edge technology hub in a diverse and dynamic team - Operations Centre

About the role

We are looking for an Engineer Applications to make a positive impact to the business by working with our web stack to build and enhance web based analytical tools and applications that drive critical business planning and improvement processes. Work in a diverse team of talented analysts / developers, working on a broad range of initiatives with various asset groups, platforms and stakeholders.

This role is a great opportunity for collaborating closely with stakeholders within Integrated Operations and the operations across the RTIO business to build and support effective applications. Working Mon-Fri (40h/week) and reporting to the Specialist Applications, you will be:

  • Building and improving web applications with a wide user base that improve, standardise and give visibility over critical business processes.
  • Providing technical support internally within the Data & Reporting team.
  • Continuously exploring opportunities to integrate new technologies and tools into the development environment and products.
  • Supporting and leading various reporting projects within RTIO.
  • Working in a Scrum team that develops extensively with React, Node.js, TypeScript and GraphQL.
  • Designing, developing, maintaining and improving the team’s application platform, associated databases, servers and systems.

About you
To be successfully considered for this role, you will have:

  • Strong knowledge and experience developing in JavaScript and JavaScript frameworks
  • Experience working with or developing REST/GraphQL APIs
  • Experience building software with Node.js and NPM/Yarn
  • Experience writing SQL queries and working with tabular databases
  • Strong problem solving skills and analytical capabilities with a willingness to grow your skills and learn from others
  • A current C Class Drivers licence

It will also be beneficial if you have:

  • Knowledge or experience in the mining industry
  • A degree in Information Technology, Software Engineering, Computer Science or similar
  • Experience working with a typed variant of JavaScript such as TypeScript or Flow
  • Strong experience working with React.js
  • Experience in version control
  • Experience in Azure and Azure DevOps
  • Knowledge in Data Science

Our state-of-the-art Operations Centre (OC) located near the Perth domestic airport, is a key component of our Mine of the Future™ vision. The OC control room operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year to coordinate our integrated network of mines, rail, power and ports. It enables all our mines, ports and rail systems to be operated from a single location, optimising site activities from 1,500km away.
