The Role

We are seeking a Graduate Mechanical Engineer to join our multidiscipline engineering team in our Melbourne based office. The role will be to assist in engineering design on a range of studies and projects works as part of a team environment. The role will vary from office based design through to site based construction and commissioning assistance, providing a wide range of development and growth opportunities for the successful candidate.

The Role Will Include

  • Mechanical design, sizing and specification of piping systems
  • Mechanical design of pressure equipment
  • Design of access platforms, structural supports, etc.
  • Sizing and specification of mechanical equipment (pumps, compressors and fans, tanks and vessels, utilities, conveyors, etc)
  • Handling of procurement packages through tender, technical evaluations, technical data review, expediting and inspections, including liaising direct with suppliers and vendors
  • Direction and review of mechanical drafting including layouts, mechanical details and piping
  • Support of project managers on project controls, including budget, schedules, progress tracking and variation claims
  • Site technical assistance during construction
  • Commissioning documentation preparation and assistance with plant commissioning
  • Preparation of plant manuals

About You

The successful applicant should have the following to be considered for the role:
  • Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering from an Australian recognised tertiary institution
  • Up to 5 years post-graduation experience in a similar design/project field
  • Well developed written and verbal communication skills
  • Team based focus with a proactive approach to meeting customer requirements
  • Computer skills – spreadsheets (Microsoft Excel), word processing (MS Word) and database (MS Access)
  • Proven ability to organise and prioritise tasks and working under pressure to achieve set deadlines
  • Enjoy working in a diverse role from engineering, through to construction technical support and hands on site commissioning
  • Ability to travel to site based assignments from time-to-time for construction and commissioning support
  • Have a focus on providing safe and cost effective engineering solutions
The following skills and experience will be highly considered for applicants for the position:
  • Structural Mechanical design experience, including use of SpaceGass
  • Pressure equipment design experience to AS1210 or ASME VIII
  • Pressure piping design (AS4041 or ASME B31) and pipe stress analysis
  • Finite element analysis
  • CAD drafting ability
  • Industrial ventilation design experience
  • Industrial piping and pumping experience
  • Experience in contract management and contract controls
  • Building services design including, commercial HVAC, fire or hydraulics
