The Customer Implementation Engineering group is responsible for the testing and implementation of new TNS customer design solutions onto the production network. The work also includes bespoke and complex connectivity solutions for new products or enhanced functionality for existing services that are yet to be standardised into TNS processes, as well as the ongoing weekly builds on hardware platforms using TNS’ proprietary software.

The position is highly technical and requires an ability to combine independent working, sometimes outside of business hours, with a willingness to contribute to team objectives and maintain high standards whilst delivering business growth as part of TNS overall corporate strategy.


  • Drive testing and implementation of network infrastructure and new customer design solutions including pilot support
  • Liaise with Sales Engineering and Customer Engineering to understand new network infrastructure and customer design solutions
  • Identify and highlight problems with customer design solutions and provide clarity where work is considered out of scope for the project
  • Provide time and resource estimates for each project and work with Project Managers and Client Transition Managers to plan and implement the proposed solution
  • Ensure that technical documentation, handover and training for each solution is provided to Operations support groups in a timely manner
  • Build and consolidate professional working relationships with technical peers within customer organisations and with other similar TNS teams around the globe
  • Provide technical training to peers and Installation team members for any new project-specific equipment and network configurations
  • Liaise with Network Planning teams to highlight capacity requirements
  • Provide technical input to the Development team for new software requirements on TNS proprietary equipment and ensure training requirements are met
  • Ensure technical training is given to Network Operations Centre personnel and that Remedy database enhancements are understood by the Client Transition Managers prior to project completion
  • Keep abreast of changes to TNS infrastructure and strategic direction and incorporate into existing processes as necessary
  • Take an active role in understanding new TNS products and service offerings including changes to proprietary software functionality and operation.
  • Attend project and technical customer meetings in person, by phone or online, including video when necessary
  • Provide 3rd line technical support to the Technical Services Group and to the Network Operations Centre as requested
  • Develop, test and deploy new global and regional network management tools as requested
  • Ensure Remedy database integrity is always maintained and highlight where existing data requires updating
  • Use time management tools to assist with project task tracking and reporting
  • Maintain strict adherence to TNS’ Change Management policies and provide technical input and analysis to problem tickets as necessary
  • Work to a flexible timetable, predominantly during core office hours but including outside of business hours as directed, especially important given the diverse time zones the team cover


  • Advanced knowledge of Linux/UNIX
  • Excellent understanding of LAN and WAN technology, including TCP/IP, dial, SSL/TLS, VPN, DSL and, increasingly, cellular technology
  • Exposure to APACS, VISA II, ISO8583 message formats and other transaction types
  • Able to use packet sniffers such as Wireshark and interpret the output
  • Excellent working knowledge of Cisco and Juniper routers and switches, including product selection, configuration and command line skills
  • Expertise in routing protocols and redundancy, including HSRP, NAT, EIGRP, BGP and MPLS
  • Exposure to security and encryption protocols, including VPN, SSL/TLS, IPSec and firewalls
  • Basic knowledge of scripting languages, including Perl, Python, Linux shell scripting and Visual Basic for Applications
  • Knowledge of Cloud-based service platforms such as AWS and Azure
  • Experienced user of Microsoft Office, particularly Outlook, Word, Excel and Visio
  • Outstanding communication skills, both oral and written, and the ability to adapt to the technical level of recipients
  • Excellent analytical skills and ability to present data effectively
  • Able to multitask under pressure and quickly switch between tasks and communication media whilst maintaining quality and focus

Desired Experience

  • At least 5 years’ experience working in a Telecoms or Data Communications environment encompassing the desired competencies and experience as detailed above
  • Technical writing, including network diagrams, to a wide audience
  • Troubleshooting and technical support, showcasing analytical skills and methodical approach to work

Education and Training

  • Educated to Degree standard in a relevant technical subject, for example Computer Science, Electronic Engineering or Telecommunications, or having equivalent industry experience
  • Currently active Cisco certification, CCNP or equivalent preferred
  • ITIL Foundation certification desirable
