Council has an exciting permanent opportunity for an experienced Technical Officer to join our dynamic Development Engineering team. This role will see the successful applicant apply their technical expertise in operational works along with completing development assessments.

Key responsibilities of this role include the following:

  • Assess the operational works applications submitted under the provisions of the Planning Act including regular review of policies, procedures and techniques utilised when processing development applications.  
  • Ensure operational works, including the standard of future Council assets is in accordance with relevant standards.
  • Provide engineering based technical assessment of development applications and provide advice to the assessment manager regarding general internal engineering works as assessed against the planning scheme.
  • Implement audit inspections, surveillance and quality control of engineering works associated with development applications.

The successful applicant will have:

  • A Bachelor of Engineering Technology (or equivalent) or Associate Degree in Civil Engineering (or equivalent).
  • Additional qualifications in an allied field, eg. environmental management, is an advantage.
  • Relevant experience in Civil Engineering design.
  • Extensive experience in Operational Works Applications Assessment in Local Government.
  • An understanding of, and experience with, the relevant statutory provisions of the Planning Act, Local Government Act, Environmental Protection Act and relevant planning schemes as they relate to the assessment of development applications.
  • A sound understanding of the civil engineering practices / works / standards as they relate to the design and construction of engineering projects, and an ability to develop appropriate methodology and apply proven techniques in providing specialised technical services.

Conditions of employment for these full-time positions will be in accordance with Council’s Enterprise Bargaining Agreement and relevant Award with the remuneration being $90,704.11 to $96,041.14 per annum plus generous superannuation.
